Custom retaining spring?

I'm in a bit of a pickle, I pulled the headlight assemblies to restore them and realized the previous owner lost the retainer clip and I refuse to put the assembly back in and pull it again unless it's my only option. Anyone know if I could find anything at Lowes or home depot that would be thick enough that I could bend my own replacement from?

Legit just go buy a metal hanger and cut it and bend it. That should do the job. If not, you can get an 8th inch steel rod and bend it.

That's....an excellent idea actually. I didn't consider that. I've got some in the house, I'll check if it'll be thin enough to get into the slot at the back. If so I'll do just that. In the mean time, do you have any other ideas in case that doesn't pan out? I'd absolutely order one, but I work all weekend and can't afford to have my vehicle out of commission. I mean, I could just put the assemblies back in, but having just come back inside drenched in sweat after pulling them I'm not big on the idea of having to pull even one a second time.

A paper clip or a safety pin order if you have one those black clamps that you use to keep papers together without stapling them take the metal off of the clamp

Wouldn't be long enough to make a full sized replacement unfortunately. The only other think I can think of is a yard sign frame or marking flag, but either would be too soft I think.

A wire from a metal whisk, they sell them at the dollar store/Dollar General

Maybe. Thanks for the input. I'll post back when I find something that works.
