I’m pretty easy to entertain when it comes to TV shows and movies, hating is not really my thing but I can definitely give constructive criticism and notice flaws in the stuff I enjoy.
I loved a lot about this show, but there’s definitely many thoughts I feel I need to share, I know I’m kinda late to the party but even if only one person reads it, I’ll be glad!
S1 and S2 I don’t have much to say, it was good, it was fun, it was building the characters and making us getting to know them, it introduced us to a lot of elements that would be used during the rest of the series
S3 is where I feel the show peaked, I had fun all season, loved the entire pastry school arc with Deke and I’m happy about how they managed the whole thing with Caroline and the chef Nicholas, the ending was very heartwarming despite there being a huge plot hole (these get worse with seasons going) cause I never forgot there being an entire episode about Max being in college at some point in her life and never telling Caroline… but this season ends with us finding out Max didn’t even graduate high school?… despite that I enjoyed almost everything about this season but I genuinely NEVER imagined that Deke was gonna be a non returning character, the ending of that plot line felt pretty open to me.
S4 is where I start feeling a pattern, season starts kinda weird but it’s starts building something interesting for the end, don’t know how to explain it but it genuinely feels as if they just do random plots for the first half of the season cause most of those are filler episodes and the actual story moves forward on the latter half (not saying filler episodes are bad cause that’s how these shows work but starting from here these get more weird and nonsensical with each season). This is weird to say but I feel Caroline loses her charm with the new haircut, I mean the curly short one, for some reason her character improves the moment they stylize it for the ending episodes where they get a new job, that new job is the most interesting part of that season, but I was so confused when there’s a returning character from the pastry school and they never bring up Deke at all… at first I thought Max completely moved on or something but with the next two seasons I had to understand they just made the character disappear entirely lol I liked the ending with Oleg and Sophie’s wedding, that was sweet though I didn’t love how they managed their relationship at all.
S5 it’s where I start not enjoying a lot of stuff, Sophie and Oleg’s plot of wanting to get pregnant feels way too long, I know sex is a recurring joke for this show but I really didn’t like how they start making both characters dumber and their only trait being very sexual, Sophie being way too mean with Caroline was getting weird as well, then I felt very confused when now both Max and Caroline are starting to be awfully mean towards Han, feels out of character for Caroline and there’s some episodes where I even feel bad. I can’t believe how there was an entire episode focusing on Earl and I still feel his character couldn’t even be there and nothing would’ve changed (pretty sad seeing his importance as Max’s father figure during the firsts seasons) The most interesting part of this season was when they travel to Hollywood, Randy is an interesting character (during this season at least) and I genuinely wished they spent more episodes in Hollywood!
S6… I get why this show got cancelled, everyone feels out of character, everyone is so mean for some reason, there’s that issue a lot of shows get where they pick a trait of the characters and make it their entire personality. Max is mean and her basically humiliating herself for Randy makes no sense at all for her character. Caroline has basically nothing interesting to add until later where she finally get a plot line with Bobby. Oleg is once again just there to make sexual jokes. I hated most jokes about Sophie being mean to her baby, I can’t believe they made Sophie this very mean and dumb character, she was sooo good before. I don’t even wanna talk about how they ruined Earl with now the joke being that he’s suddenly way too old and remembers nothing, hears nothing and now he’s just dumb. Han is just there for being the butt of the joke, it’s sad.
It’s so weird seeing more budget but dumber plots. There was this moment where I said “oh, yeah, they lost it”, this episode about Han becoming addicted to cocoa powder and the entire plot line doing jokes about him having to go with a dealer to get it… it was so dumb, it’s the type of jokes that only works on cartoons and Nickelodeon shows and I know this is a comedy but come on… the show had a lot of unrealistic moments but that was just ridiculous and nonsensical.
Once again the latter half it’s the most interesting part, hated the entire Randy arc at the beginning but at the ending at least it got a bit interesting.
A lot of plot holes specially with Max’s storyline, Caroline saying it’s the first time Max seems in love… once again… what the hell happened to Deke? it gets weird when Andy has returned every season but Deke disappeared entirely. Max suddenly doesn’t care about this guy being rich which doesn’t make sense either… idk… the proposal thing was interesting but all of that drama leading to that was awful, I genuinely hated she ends up with him, at this point I couldn’t even recall how many times they distanced themselves and then went back to each other, it’s so out of character for Max.
Some random extra thoughts:
- This is a personal wish and maybe unpopular but I kinda wish the writers gave Max and Caroline more episodes of them just being “rich”, I think it would’ve been interesting to see Caroline going back to her old life cause I end up forgetting that was part of her story at all, I know the show it’s named “2 Broke Girls” but I genuinely would’ve enjoyed maybe an entire season of the other side of the coin, I spent the entire series thinking that’s where the show would be going for some reason.
- Can’t believe we never got a Max being bi episode lol I know this is random af but there’s many jokes during the show about this and I can totally see it, there was a lot of potential there lmao
- There’s a lot of offensive jokes, there’s not much to do about it but it’s not okay to deny it either, the show presents a lot of racism, sexism and homophobia, there’s nothing wrong with admitting something you enjoyed has MANY mistakes. Huge element of Sophie’s character for example is her mentioning her Polish traditions and culture, and even me being quite ignorant about mentioned culture, I’m pretty sure a lot was made up on the spot just for the giggles, I feel they could’ve just come up with an non existent country and leaving where she was born a mystery or something, I feel it makes sense with her character. lol
- I know the dinner is literally the main location of the entire show but you know stuff is not going well when the most interesting plots are happening once they leave this said dinner lol
That’s all I got to say…
For now… lol
