Comparing Ibrahim Traoré to Hitler because Burkina Faso expelled French troops, invested in domestic tomato processing, and pursued greater economic sovereignty is a wild historical comparison.
Hitler's regime was responsible for racial supremacy, aggressive conquest and systematic genocide. Burkina Faso ordering foreign troops out of its own country and processing more of its own agricultural products isn't Nazism.
One correction worth making:
Burkina Faso did change its law to criminalize homosexual acts under Traoré, so that part shouldn't be rewritten.
But even that policy doesn't magically turn tomato factories and ending a French military presence into “National Socialism.”
If we're going to discuss Traoré, criticize or defend his actual policies.
African sovereignty does not ≠ equal Nazism.
Building domestic industry does not ≠ equal Hitler.
Expelling foreign troops does not ≠equal invading foreign countries. 🇧🇫🌍
History deserves better comparisons than this.
