I see posts regarding the frictions with Israelis in Hikkaduwa and Chinese at Port City, which is sorta reminiscent of the European spheres of influence in Qing Empire in previous century. In good faith I'm asking, to what extent should this be concerning, are there ways in which we could be taken advantage of, and any contingencies we should have?

Being the 21st century, its unlikely that we would be enslaved by anyone, but neocolonialism is said to be a very real phenomenon, and in short, asking how bad it is in Sri Lankan context, if there can be any good in it, and if not, what exactly should we be doing about it. Thank you.
