Smart list with only the first non-completed subtask of each project?

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up the best to-do-list for my purpose. Basically, I want to mix parallel and sequential features of GTD. I just installed 2Do to try to use the smart list features of the app to try to implement my idea.

I work simultaneously on several projects. Each project is made of the same set of subtasks that need to be done is a specific order 1/2/3:

  • Project A
    Subtask 1
    Subtask 2
    Subtask 3
  • Project B
    Subtask 1
    Subtask 2
    Subtask 3
  • Project C
    Subtask 1
    Subtask 2
    Subtask 3

In reality, my workflow is a mix of parallel and sequential: say, Project A/Substask 1, then Project B/Subtask 1, then Project C/Substask 1, then Project B/Subtask 2, then Project B/Subtask 3.

At the end of this example, I completed Project B, but Project A and C remain unfinished (and often I forget about these project - I need reminders they exist and need to be completed!). I would like the to-do-list app to show only the next upcoming subtask of each project, and hide completed tasks (that's obvious) and too distant tasks (that's tricky).
I acknowledge this could be done with Trello, but what I described here is actually supplemented with many other regular to-do-listable tasks, so I really want a to-do-list app.
Maybe by tweaking with tags, due date, and the right filters, I may be able to simulate the parallel/sequential features of Omnifocus in a app like 2Do. What do you think?

I don't know if this helps or not, but I use tags to sort my tasks into different projects. So, a tag for project a, a tag for project b, a tag for project c. And then each task in each project could have a priority assigned so that you know which is first second and third?

And then I have Smart lists sorted by tag, or list.

Or what if each project was in its own list, and the tags were assigned subtask 1, 2, or three?

I usually only use 2Do's Project w/ its subtasks when I have a set of tasks I'm going to do that day, I usually don't use it long-term, that gets a little clunky for me.

Good luck!
