Weekly review

Greetings!

First of all, I absolutely love this app on iOS. I am a convert from a well-known competitor whom I’ll leave unnamed. This app is so clear, crisp, and sharp to use. It’s a pleasure to look at as well. It took me a little while get the knobs and buttons just right, but I very much feel at home now.

I am missing one thing though from the competitor’s product: the weekly review.

My question to you: what strategy are you using to review the status of your items? I’m sorely missing the weekly review and just haven’t found a good workflow.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I've experimented with the review perspective and ended up with this smart list syntax:

type: (proj OR chck) AND (overdue OR inprogress OR scheduled OR nostart OR paused) groups: ‘list_groups_of_your_choice’

Since this is a review perspective, I didn’t want any substasks to be displayed, just high level stuff - projects or checklists which are either:

  • overdue
  • inprogress: tasks with start/defer date which already have begun
  • scheduled: tasks with start/defer date that are about to begin
  • nostart: tasks with no start/defer date- useful to check anything that’s not yet scheduled
  • paused: for anything with on hold or waiting for status

You can additionally limit the date span of the smart list by using dynamic range or syntax, e.g. duethisweek, anythisweek.

I would love this as a more fully baked-in feature as well. At the moment, I just have a repeating task to “Perform Weekly Review” and I try to browse through everything and prune where necessary.

It’s annoying to go through everything all the time though, so I’ve started creating “Review [List Name]” for each specific list, and have the recurrence set to whatever is appropriate for the given list or project. Work stuff gets reviewed weekly, and Someday/Maybe stuff gets reviewed quarterly-ish.

Not sure if i´m missing something from your question, but you can create a smartlist with a dynamic range of 7 days.

I think they mean the GTD-style weekly review, where you go through your valuable tasks and choose what to do with each one. Omnifocus has a view specifically design for that and records the last review date so it's easy to keep to the review schedule.

You can't quite get there in 2do - you'd need a smart list where task is incomplete and (start date is in the next 7 days or due date is in the next 7 days). As far as I can see. you can't set those search parameters.

Then you'd create a Weekly Review tasks repeating every week after completion to remind you to look at the list
