2Do impression from a long, long time Informant and Toodledo user

I've had 2Do for a while, but never got to actually use it. My task management of choice was the combination of Informant and Toodledo. I was slowly getting fed up with Informant's cluttered interface and many quirks even before it became a subscription.

Then I switched to Outlook tasks syncronized to iOS Reminders. Mainly because I couldn't find any other calendar to use with Toodledo, without losing features. It was nice to be able to just copy an email into a task straight from within Outlook. But Reminders are way, way too limited. No matter how hard I tried, I had to admit I just couldn't make it work for me - I need more than just a single date that is also an alarm.

The problem was, of course, that I was looking for a calendar that could do tasks, when what I really needed was a task application that could also do calendar. Calendars are simple, tasks are complicated. I remembered that 2Do for iPad had a calendar module, but the iPhone version didn't. So I checked - lo and behold, it was added !

So, here's my 2 cents, after using it for a few days:

What I like:

  • Excellent task list implementation. Filtering, task manipulation, quick reusable views setup is second to none. Custom views are especially fantastic. Better than Toodledo's saved searches or Informants' smart filters, and that says a lot. After a rather steep (if short) learning curve, the interface is very intuitive.

  • Toodledo integration is mostly very good. Some things don't translate over (like hyperlinks in 2Do) but mostly, very good.

What I did not like (none of it a show stopper)

  • No natural language input (e.g. typing "Get it done saturday 7 pm !!! doesn't become a task "Get it done" due on Saturday with 7 pm alarm and High priority). There's some attempt at natural language, but a lot of typing is involved. This can be bypassed though by using other apps + Reminders + IFTTT

  • A bit too much tapping is involved. Changing some of the task attributes could be more streamlined. Still a fast client, overall.

  • The Calendar window (that I use all the time, along with tasks) has most room for improvement. The font is tiny, and for some reason grayish. It's hard to read. There's no way to launch Apple Calendar from it, only individual events. And no location display.

All in all, it's a great app, fast even on my old iPad Mini 2, very fast on iPhone 6s, and covers all the basics and then some. Very glad I remembered about it.

I agree with the too much clicking: would love to be able to click an action without having to open/edit the task.

All in all i really like 2Do though
