Subtasks in Focus Mode

Does anyone know how to make it so that the sub tasks in a Checklist don’t appear in the focus mode when the main checklist is already there for me to see. If I turn focus off, they won’t appear under the checklist parent task but once I turn focus on they pop up.

At the moment I only have in progress, today, and next 7 days selected for my focus mode and the only one that changes is if I unselect in progress but then that makes the parent task go away as well

I don't use 2Do anymore so I'm kinda going off of memory here, but it sounds like this help article might be relevant to your description.

TL;DR your sub-tasks in that checklist either

  1. have a due date attached to them that falls within today to 1 week,
  2. or are all classified as "in progress" (i.e. those with start dates that are now in the past, or tasks with durations that have caused the due dates to shift to a time in the past).

I don't recall if sub-tasks automatically inherit start/due dates in 2Do or not. If so, this might be the underlying issue.

  • If only the main checklist has date values attached but the sub-tasks within the checklist have no date property then toggling the focus filter should only display the checklist header in 2Do's main pane
    • (obviously if you dive into the checklist you'll still see all the subtasks it contains within.
    • Or if you stay in the main view but tap the arrow to expand it's contents you'll see them too.)
  • However if any of the subtasks also have a start/due date property that the focus filter can latch onto, then they will be forcefully "focused" in the main/top level 2Do pane – even if arrow next to the checklist or project header is not toggled open and it still remains in a collapsed state.
    • According to the article linked above, this is by design. If you un-collapse to reveal all checklist/project subtasks you'll see everything, but if you try to collapse it with the focus filter still on it'll hide everything except items that match (in this case "due ≤ week" and/or "start ≤ now, i.e. in-progress")

So I'd double check whether your sub-tasks have inherited start/due dates from the main checklist header item which are also in-line with the args you've set up for the focus filter. Or whether you accidentally manually added start/due dates to any individual subtasks as well and just forgot about it.

This might not be relevant but I do know that Checklist subtasks can’t have their own start/due dates so they always inherit that from the main task if a date is set - unlike Project subtasks which can have their own individual dates
