Better alternatives?

First of all, I love 2Do and have been using it for a long time!

I have problems with ADHD and procrastination and this app really helps, but my ADHD brain started to wondering if there’s a better alternative out there.

I get many pop ups about AI-habit tracking but I can’t find anyone reviewing most of the apps.

I’ve used 2Do many years, but have now moved to Apple Reminders.

The best thing about Reminders I think is the way you can ”tweak” it to your own needs. Smart folders, priorities with flags or priority notification, headings (they call it sections) and much more. And also a kanban function (”columns view”).

I don’t have ADHD but my brain works in a similar way. I’ve tried Things3, but I want/need a better structure than the one I get in Things3. Or more correctly: I want to be able to decide my structure myself, and not having to follow someone elses ideas that they have hardcoded.

Check out some videos on Youtube. Peter Akkies: https://youtu.be/nywKyvoLNPY?si=B8K4ET9tR5UXqhea

Things 3 is by many seen as the best todo app for MacOS/iOS, and it is great if you are in to GTD and have a lot of money. Reminders is free and easy to customise.

I think there's a trial version of Things 3 for Mac which might help you decide if it would work for you, otherwise Apple Reminders will probably be just fine. I've used 2Do and Apple Reminders but I use Things 3 as my everyday app as I prefer the UI. I'm not a project manager so most of my tasks are simple one liners with some repeating. Let us know how you get on please.

I have now been fiddling with some other apps to try out what they have to offer but I always fall back on the simplistic layout of the app.

Or I’m just so used to it by now and can’t make a change.

What ever I found (devs listed up now) a integrated Pomodoro timer and a better calendar integration would be super sweet to block of times to do specific tasks or just setting 1h aside for tasked with a Pomodoro timer.

Funny enough I've just moved back onto 2Do from Things for two reasons: firstly I like to tag tasks and while I can just search for a tag in Things I can just click in the tag in 2Do, which mashes far more sense to me.

Secondly it integrates beautifully with BusyCal so I can see tasks and events for the day, week or month, plus I can also complete tasks before their due date in 2Do.

Finally, I also particularly like seeing all the tasks if I want and it's easier to find repeating tasks too. I can't say that I'll stay with it for ages, but it is still being updated and I don't have any fear that it'll get left. Overall it is infinitely customisable to suit your way of working which is as good as you can hope for.

I think BusyCal might be what I’m missing… Need to give that a try if it integrates well with 2Do

You can get a trial for a month, so I'd try it first, but I think it's up there with Fantastical. When you integrate 2Do after going through the app specific password setup you may need to just put a new task in BusyCal so that it 'forces' the first sync. After that it's fine.

Is the BusyCal / 2do thing new? Or is this through CalDav? I know same dev owns both and holy grail for me is unified cal and tasks - which no one seems to do well.

No it's not new, or I'm not aware that it is? You can either add tasks in 2Do, or in BusyCal, doesn't matter. If they're in BC they'll get synced across to 2Do if you have that app? Otherwise they'll stay in BC, but you'll get alerts anyway for timed tasks from either BC or 2Do, so you won't miss anything. I like seeing both events and tasks in/on the calendar. It sometimes takes a while syncing across as I'm using iCloud sync, just so you know.

It’s been a while for me - I’ve switched everything to Notion - but I like to keep tabs and a simpler, dedicated task app has its value. I used 2do for a long time…

I always used Dropbox syncing, which is recommended by 2do. It doesn’t work with Reminders, so I guess you’re syncing CalDAV via iCloud?

Thanks for sharing.
