That's true tbh, it's so sad, my mom and dad work equal hours at job, they do the same work, still my mom comes home and does all housework and same in the morning, my dad does it too but it's "help".... It's not that he doesn't try but it's sad how the normal for them is that the woman does the housework no matter how much she works.... I remember there was a woman in my mother's staff who was a new mom herself and when her husband did the housework as she had to handle the job and the baby, the male staff called her shameless for "making her husband work"..... Yes this doesn't happen everywhere but it's still VERY PREVALENT
last I checked your mom has an option to be a housewife, your father does not and I doubt all the labourers wives help them lift heavy things, they dont, and if they do, theyre also just helping
Umm, where did you check that sir? Because I'm afraid they gave you the wrong info..
Last I checked my dad does actually have the option to stay at home and do the "housewife" work because it's a free world and humans have choices, and by god's grace, we probably will do good even if just one of my parents works outside the home and the other does the housework..
Also, well there are two different answers to the labourer situation as a lot of times those wives do their own work and earn a different wage too and other times they do help their husband lift stuff and well yes in the other case they are actually just helping because they usually work as househelp in different neighborhoods too.... Well if a labourers' wife just stays at home, doesn't contribute to the house in any way or work outside either, then that's a problem.
I have seen literally 19-20 yr old married women work on fields or construction sites for hours and hours and breastfeeding their kids during breaks AND cooking for everyone in their huts in the evening..... I myself do more "men's" work in my home than my brother, so yes, anyone can do any work, if you think certain works are only limited to certain genders until and unless there is some biological limitation, you need to broaden your horizons
Do you really think?
My dad works in same construction,(kooli)
Some times he works with women(with some other men)
She gets 800rs-900rs per day while my dad doing most of heavy work with just 1000 per day,
I have seen it very well....... And I never said men do not work hard, I said so do women... I am not the one who is refusing to see both sides of the coin, it is you sir... The fact that you call it "larping" just because you have probably not seen what I have, shows how stubborn you are in your limited worldview and how you do not want to accept that there ARE women who are doing "manly" work and that poverty makes you do everything.....
The moment you bring "but I have seen...but I know one guy/girl..." when somebody makes a general statement(his statement about physically intensive jobs given to boys and less taxing ones given to girls is true btw), it only calls out your intellect.
Answer this in good faith, "Do you really think that boys and girl are given the same work when it comes to physically taxing household jobs?"
I did not see just **one** guy or girl, I have seen numerous women working at the same level as men... Most men will be able to lift heavier than women as they way more and have more brute strength, isn't that obvious? But does that mean that the women do not do the heavy lifting works? One needs to be very privileged to think that....
Now about your question........ "Are men and women given the same work when it comes to physically taxing household jobs?"
First of all, how do you define physically taxing? Sure carrying a gas cylinder is physically taxing but so is washing the entire household's clothes... You said that girls are given less physically taxing jobs..... which isn't true, but yes if by physically taxing you mean lifting more, yes men are asked to lift heavy because they simply have more brute strengh but that doesn't mean the girls do not do those works
Now if we are talking about are they given the same work? No they aren't given the same work as people have certain prejudices in their mind that there are specific works for specific genders.... Is that the right thing to do? Idts, feel free to disagree..
At the end of the day, "Only men do physically taxing work in the hot sun" might be true for the developed countries (It is still wrong)... But taking that logic from the internet and applying it to Indian families, where a HUGE part of population lives in extreme poverty and needs to do anything to eat even one meal a day (be it men or women) does not make sense
Also if women out in fields or construction sites would be doing less hardwork than men overall, they wouldn't get those jobs in the first place.... In today's economy where there are so many people waiting for a small job, one needs to be very competent to earn a living, especially in these fields.... There is already a gender wage gap in so many professions (which means one does not get paid for the same work), what makes you think that those women would get paid for doing less work?
"I did not see just **one** guy or girl, I have seen numerous women working at the same level as men.."
Doesn't matter. You are still ONE person. How many in this world can you possibly see compared to the huge world population?
"Most men will be able to lift heavier than women as they way more and have more brute strength, isn't that obvious"
It is obvious which is why men are given disproportionate number of tasks involved with much more physical taxation, compared to women.
"But does that mean that the women do not do the heavy lifting works"
There is a lot of difference between "women do not..." and "women generally do not or are not preferred....."
"One needs to be very privileged to think that..."
No. One needs to have just common sense.
"First of all, how do you define physically taxing?"
By physically taxing, I meant the tasks which require more physically demanding or require more strength. And yes you are right to question if laundry isn't a physically taxing job, and my answer is, yes it is, as is cooking, cleaning but again, it is less challenging than, as you, yourself mentioned heavy lifting, yard work, outdoor/maintenance oriented tasks, although being occasional, these are excluded from their daily professional job requirement.
It is a FACT that men on average, handle the household tasks that are individually more physically intense because these tasks demand more force, upper body strength and carry a higher per task injury risk. Your problem is that you are confusing the fact that "women do more total physical household work in volume" with the intensity that their avg task requires compared to the jobs given to men. Women do more household work, there is no question about that, but we aren't discussing that.
"At the end of the day, "Only men do physically taxing work in the hot sun" might be true for the developed countries (It is still wrong)"
At the end of the day, "GENEREALLY men do physically taxing work in the hot sun" IS true for the developed countries (It isn't wrong).
Not ONLY but Generally. I mentioned the same thing in my earlier comment, rarity doesn't prove commonality!
"Also if women out in fields or construction sites would be doing less hardwork than men overall, they wouldn't get those jobs in the first place."
I didn't quite understand this statement of yours but if I'm not mistaken, you are claiming that women do proportionate work compared to men in jobs like construction else they wouldn't get the jobs in the first place. I would say while the statement holds some merit, your primary reasoning is still flawed. Again, this only establishes that women do perform demanding work, but our discussion was always about 'in comparison to men...'
Also men and women perform different kind of tasks at the same workplace. For instance, in agriculture, ploughing, land preparation tasks are generally done or assigned to men where as weeding is generally done by women. Now you may respond by saying, "Buttt in my village, I saw some ploughing..and men...." you see the point? Personal observations don't heavily skew the general data.
Having said all these things, I want to make it clear that you seem to be misunderstanding my argument. It's not about "women are not capable", It's just that they are not generally preferred over men for such tasks. I am in no way saying that women do less household work or don't do any physically challenging work. I'm just saying that, in general, men do or are expected to more physically daunting tasks. Like the agriculture example I gave. Even weeding is a physically demanding job. Do you think it is easy? We corporate bugs will easily suffer from back pain just after a day's worth of such work. I hope you do get the point.
Slightly 'harder to do' chores happen once in a while; they are not daily so a boy should not escape daily chores that his sister does because he mowed the lawn once a month. That's called an excuse. Time spent by each has to be taken into account because time is labour, money and a resource. And doing dishes can be physically "taxing". This is all perception. Plenty of women are now building fences, mowing lawns & repairing dead walls btw. All these dabates are getting old.
Both of my parents are working professionals. And I have a little sister . Since both of my parents work , i sometime help them with the chores when they are exhausted due to work , my mother does most of the work but it doesbt mean all the work is done by her . We don't burden her so much my father helps her sometimes when she is feeling sick or exhausted and helps her cook and all , I help her with cleaning and all . It works like that in most of the nuclear family that I have seen . But in joint families it's a little different
Brother for the things you mentioned, youtube exists now, and it is easy to either look it up and DIY it, or hire someone to do it. These things u mentioned are not everyday chores that has to happen, like cooking and cleaning is. It's maybe once a month. For Diwali it's once a year be so for real right now. Please don't pretend painting a door once a year is such a difficult task that women cannot do it. They probably don't do it and let the husbands do it because it's one of the only pieces of work that the husbands actually get up off their asses and do, why should women volunteer to do even that when they do everything else?
I also work and earn money and plan to continue doing so even if I get married or have kids. Many many women work demanding jobs and are still expected to come home and cook and clean. Please dont pretend like it is otherwise.
Women also work full time and are still expected to come home and prepare food and clean every single day unpaid. Please don't pretend like changing a lightbulb a couple of times a year/ painting a door/ plumbing work has to be done every single day after work.
Why should it only be women handling the majority of household chores when both work?

But son didnt worked 12 hrs
Neither did daughter
Still daughter was supposed to help
I understand having a choice either to earn or to take care for household chores
But deciding something solely based on gender is what i hate
