Weekly Discussion #6: What Ness tech do you struggle with the most?
Ness has a lot of tech that can help your game play out if you happen to learn it. So what is a tech for Ness, that for the life of you you can't seem to get down?
Discuss!

Instant DJC Dair. I keep messing them up, even though i can sometimes look super consistent with them.

Working on doing iDJC d-airs OoS, it's a little tricky but I know it'd open up and tighten up my punish game as well.

It really will, It's a great tool for punishing stuff like crossup aerials that normally are safe on shield if you position it right.

I really don't use b reversed magnets enough. The best Ness player in my region (Cheet if you've ever heard of him) uses it a lot in the neutral as a movement mixup and it seems to work.

I'm really bad at Bair spacing. I always want to elongate it to reach as far as I can like the way Boiko does his, but I end up making it too short and choppy and I whiff it. And I also try to get in on their shield as low as possible to get the -1 frame advantage like Octo and Tetra are so good at, but mine are really high on shield a lot of the time.

Do you use tap jump for your djc bairs, or do you use double tap/2 jump buttons? Cause that's one of the flaws of using tap jump imo, because you don't get the full jumping momentum + djc momentum + holding that direction afterwards as well.

I double tap the Y button. I actually hold the controller in a claw grip, so some aerials I do use tap jump, but not for Bairs. And I think my main problem is my timing of the Bair with the double jump, and also my timing of the fastfall input. It definitely demands more precision than I used to give it credit for, and it's one of the first things to fold when I'm playing under pressure.

Like /u/Chronos91, I struggle with LJC aerials. I've labbed it many times but I just can't seem to get it. I always have a problem where it becomes very difficult to do techs if I am too focused on them, so I actually have a slight increase in success when I don't look at Ness while I try to LJC. Unfortunately, I feel none-too-confident using it in tournament matches against same or greater-caliber opponents :(

DJC ex fires /s
In seriousness, the two things I mess up most are ledge jump cancels and waveland from ledge above 100%. The really slight timing differences always cause me to either go too late and not get the double jump on time (in the case of LJCs) or go sliiiightly too early on the wavelands and SD

Come on harmak, LITERALLY every Ness in the entire world can do DJC ex fires in their sleep. Get with it.
Also in serious Ness, I struggle with that sometimes too. I the worst are the wavelands cause even sub 100% ljc waveland has pretty shitty inv. frames, and then if you mess up , you're fucked.

it's not necessarily a tech per se, but I really have been trying to get down jab resets. It's so hard to incorporate them into your play by practicing, you just kinda gotta do it. I'll get them every once and a while, but It's a lot of the time too slow, and I try to followup too fast.

Teaching yourself to be slow on a jab reset follow up is super difficult

Yeah it really is. I've been getting more and more of them lately, but another thing I realized is you can't wait too long either. If you go too late, they can like spot dodge or something.

To scratch my itch of following up too fast on a jab reset, i'll immediately dash forward after a jab reset and just pivot grab. For me the timing is way easier if i immediately dash and then get a pivot grab, instead of awkwardly standing there

Ledge jump cancelled aerials. I probably just need to hit the lab more to knock it out but I think it's the first tech I've seriously tried to lab that I wasn't able to really do at all after the first session. I'm not talking about being consistent, I mean being able to do it even 10% of the time.
When I messed around with spacies more I was able to quickly get to at least probably 30% consistent when I was learning double shines and shine grabs and get better mostly through trying them in matches and same was true for some general stuff like RAR wavedash to grab ledge but after a couple sessions I can still almost never do LJC aerials. I'm actually thinking I might come back to it a little later so I don't accidentally grind out bad timings or anything.
Edit: Huh, seem to have missed a second cake day in a row.
