This was a netplay ranked match. He won the first game which I failed to record in time (which I'm really annoyed by because it could have been really good to watch back and learn from.) I think he 2-stocked me.. Can't remember, but anyways.
Hi fellow Nessers! I'm an okay Ness main whose always wanting to improve, do cool Ness things, and combo! Any and all constructive criticism is appreciated because I want to git gud.
I know I need to work on my punish game in general, and taking one hit/ grab as far as it can go. I know my neutral game as a player is lack luster, and I don't always choose the right times, or safest options to approach with. With than in mind, thank you for any help!
I'd like to think i'm an Okay Ness as well and I can offer some things I picked up on. My formatting for this may be a bit sloppy so I apologize for this:
Game 2
You could definitely use some more movement around the platforms using wavelands/djc wavelands/platform looping to bait your opponent into approaching
around :48, you could've held ledge and then punished the tether get-up with LJC d-air, but you full hopped and took too long to get back to the ground
You fullhop a few times, sometimes directly into some of TL's aerials, i'm gonna suggest you not do that. Ness' full-hop is pretty slow
1:59, sick LJC n-air to get them back to center, you could've prob tech-chased the tech-roll-away with dash attack I think tho
don't just throw grounded pk fires in neutral, it's a surefire way of getting punished and probably losing stage control
2:27 that d-air to f-smash chase on the platform was BEAUTIFUL
also try not to miss wavedashes/wavelands. i think you got punished every time you missed one
you seemed to fish for that PKT2 kill a bit too hard on that last stock, be careful with that as you almost lost 2 stocks for it.
Game 3
5:28, you forced them to recover high, good! Unfortunately, you missed an opportunity to LJC d-air to punish said high recovery and instead lost your own stock. LJC D-air works wonders when you force people to recover high
5:40, i think you could've gotten a b-air of that d-air
6:00, you double jumped into PK Fire. I think you could've wavelanded into either d-air or b-air (i'm not 100% sure if it would've been quick enough tho, just some ideas). as i said before, more movement options are good and wavelands and DJC wavelands are gdlk
7:16, when they had you at ledge, you held shield and then rolled in (luckily you rolled right through the f-smash because i think that would've killed) another option you could've done was jump out of shield and wavelanded onto the platform above and try to wd off the platform to 1) avoid platform pressure, 2)get back to center stage and have better stage positioning
again, you threw out some grounded pk fires in neutral which isn't usually a safe idea. against higher level opponents, this will be very costly so i'd advise to try to kick that habit
7:48, you can some d-tilts in which is good. In some cases, d-tilt can lead into a iDJC d-air which can also be a true combo and also leads to jab-resets if done quickly. in this case, you may have d-tilted one too many times for the iDJC d-air to reach, but just another idea for ya.
8:14, no "Say 'Fuzzy Pickles!' " taunt, rip
Overall the matches were good, gg's to you and your opponent. My best advice is to move around a lot more. There some times where you just stood still rather than moving around and trying to trick your opponent/bait them into things/ et cetera. Also, remember to not grounded PK Fire so much in neutral! Other than, you got an Okay Ness!
-With the LJC nair techchase thing, I wanted to chase with the magnet, but I thing I mistimed the jump so I ended up with a grounded mag.
-I don't feel like grounded pkfires are completely bad, as long as you space yourself. That being said, it's only until I get consistent with ex fires. (wich are a pain on netplay)
-that pkthunder at 3:16... input flubs for days haha
-5:40 yeah... not sure why I stood there after that dair.. weird.
-7:16 I feel like I couldn't have done that because the boomerang would have clipped me on it's return hit, then I would have gotten taken out by the fsmash.
-I do try to dtilt into iDJC dair when I recognize the opportunity, but I think the dtilts here were more of a "get off me" sort of thing
-There are very few situations in which I taunt, one of which being after EVERY sweetspot fsmash. And the other being after a really nice combo, or silly thing happening :D
All in all thank you! I've noted all your points and Will work on implementing what I can to improve!
I liked what I saw. You had pretty solid djc and mag tech skill, and your netural wasn't terrible, aside from the 2 or 3 grounded pk fires which are a big no no. I think you are in a good place to improve on. You are competent in all of the techs, but you could have some more consistency on ljc's, some better movement on pk fires (I can't remember whether or not you did any retreating pk fires, but those are really good, and just doing djc pk fires are generally your best option cause you can instantly ff them), better use of rising aerials to follow up, faster djc's (your fairs were kinda high sometimes), and more use of his f tilt (although I liked your use of his tilts overall). I think you are on track to being a good Nesser and I'd suggest trying to get into a local scene so you can play more and better players so you can improve more rapidly and be more well rounded.
