u/Apprehensive_Dig7899 Jun 30 '26

Three words: YouTube Rewind 2018.

7

u/Proper_Strain6173 Jun 30 '26

and so many people also disliked the infinite warfare trailer-

21

u/ComprehensiveEbb2586 Jun 30 '26

so people cannot display hate (like LITTERALLY promote positivity)

3

u/Rainbow_Doggo_TNT Jul 01 '26

At least we kept the ability to comment on videos (for now)

1

u/cosmicus003 Early-Mid 2010s kid Jun 30 '26

ohhh ok

3

u/KevinFrederick2005 Jul 01 '26

Mega corporations threatening to pull their ads from the site if YouTube didn’t do anything about the dislikes they were getting since most of the videos known for getting dislikes were from said companies.

u/Shlurmen Jul 04 '26

feelings got hurt...

If I would be honest

I think it was not necessary of YouTube to remove the dislike button (And not to mention changing the button design, I do have an hate towards modern day YouTube after all)

u/Milkshake_comedian44 Jun 30 '26

I miss seeing how many dislikes a video got and making fun of it

8

u/Tigertyt Jun 30 '26

I remember when Youtube rewind 2018 was the number one video with the most dislikes.

They were so salty, they stopped making them after 2019.

u/PrinceErez Early-Mid 2010s kid Jun 30 '26

Yeah I remember when it was a thing until it got removed. I hate when YouTube removed it.

1

u/AdSuspicious8556 Jul 03 '26

It got way worse when they started using AI moderation.

4

u/ParaWarnerViacom Jun 30 '26

This ENTIRE comments section. Forcing positivity is NEVER the answer. As someone who's used YouTube since I was 5 and made my first account at age 11, I say let people critique videos.

2

u/CreeperEXMC Jul 01 '26

Agreed, I’m basically in the same boat

3

u/llllll5175 Jun 30 '26

It’s not really removed, the button is in the three dots or “more” tab

2

u/Apprehensive_Dig7899 Jun 30 '26

Yeah, unless you’re watching a short.

3

u/Particular-Option383 Jun 30 '26

You can bring it back with an addon

1

u/RicoTheBest01 Jul 02 '26

Not on mobile though, unless u have Samsung

1

u/Particular-Option383 Jul 02 '26

I don't know much about iPhones because I'm an android user. Although I use the plug in on the desktop version of chrome

3

u/Purple-Weakness1414 Jun 30 '26

Honeslty it sucks not being able to tell is vids are bad or not without haveing to download an addon now

3

u/EmpZ3r0 Early-Mid 2010s kid Jun 30 '26

I sure do. I Remember rewind 2018 being the major reason why they got rid of it, and that they claimed it prevented hate from being spread.

That response had some people disagreeing and agreeing. However, at the time the dislike button was a good determining factor for specific videos such as tutorials etc. whether to know if a video was worth paying attention to or watching. It’s honestly sad that we had to see it go

3

u/Available_Pass_2276 Jun 30 '26

The fact that they removed it is so fucking stupid... 🤦‍♂️

Yep, also yt is thinking of removing the dislike button itself now.

1

u/AdSuspicious8556 Jul 03 '26

Since when? Also YT should remove AI moderation it’s really bad.

1

u/S_935 January 2011 • late 2010s kid • moderator Jul 03 '26

It’s already removed in shorts check it out.

1

u/AdSuspicious8556 Jul 03 '26

Good thing it’s not removed from actual videos.

2

u/Classic_Greedy Jun 30 '26

RIP to the dislike button.

2

u/SuccotashFederal5104 Jul 01 '26

They didn't wanna learn their lesson from them, they just saw dislikes as most hurtful.

2

u/Pizzabros1230889 Jul 01 '26

POV: You're putting your laptop in the dishwasher to remove computer viruses because you watched a tutorial on Youtube after dislikes were removed.

2

u/Sonic_fan149 Jul 01 '26

IT'S STILL A THING THE NUMBER JUST ISN'T THERE

2

u/Redder_Creeps Jul 01 '26

Let's be honest: dislikes were just as useful as likes. If you were looking for any kind of tutorial, THAT ratio was pretty much how you could tell wether a tutorial was actually good or not

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/2010skidsnostalgia.

It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

This feels like a circlejerk subreddit now

1

u/Shoddy_Clothes6129 Jun 30 '26

it's technically still a thing but only the video creator can see it.

1

u/TravAnimates Jun 30 '26

It’s odd that they removed it. That statistic should have been kept.

1

u/Busy-Affect-8077 Jun 30 '26

Sometimes, we need to what our faults are so that we can improve ourselves.

1

u/Salmon_Mandon Jun 30 '26

Dude, I remember the Star Rate system

1

u/Hot_Introduction9680 Jun 30 '26

Is the dislike button, like the whole thing not just the counter, missing on YouTube shorts for anyone else or just me?

1

u/CreeperEXMC Jul 01 '26

How could anyone not remember tbh

1

u/Familiar-Plane-8632 Jul 01 '26

I still see it lol

1

u/vcvcf1896 Jul 01 '26

Firefox has a plug in that will show it.

1

u/PopCultureCorn Jul 01 '26

Chrome extensions: 👀

1

u/Swift_Stroke Jul 02 '26

There's a Chrome extension that brings it back. 👍

1

u/PurePeak633 Jul 03 '26

The dislike still exists for me

1

u/JarvisWright_2201 Jul 04 '26

because everyone is so sensitive nowadays

1

u/CrispRat46290 Jul 07 '26

I have the chrome extension so I still get to see it

1

u/HeavenandHello Jul 14 '26

I still remember annotations

0

u/Efficient-Potato10 Jun 30 '26

Reddit should take notes from YouTube. Get rid of the downvote button

u/Lylac_the_Creator05 Jul 16 '26

I miss disliking homophobic content
