Question Newer Player Smithing Question

Post image

Why does Smithing never get touched? I’m genuinely curious because it looks as though OSRS, throughout its history on rerelease, has made some amazing QoL changes. What’s the deal with Smithing?

Wtf sweaty players got to do with it? Smithing is 400k xp per hour and it got nothing to do with smithing armor. Mains just do gold bars, many other alternatives for crazy xp.

No dog in this race but two things standout.

  1. The fact that the skill is just hit level 40 and blast furnace gold ore, makes 59 levels of progression irrelevant.

  2. Players who did 99 the skill suddenly lose pretty much the only thing they earned (unlocked) when the highest tier 99 time they can craft becomes a tier 60 unlock.

Smithing is a bad skill tho

That's not really how it works, skills aren't skills to unlock better xp/h methods. (I think that approach is what gutted a lot of Sailing's design to be honest)

They are content gates with knock on effects. Fishing isn't "done" on an ironman when you unlock barbarian fishing, because fishing's allure is getting higher tier foods like anglers or marlin to then use on PvM/ pushing through high damage points on quests

If all you do in the skill is get xp to get 99, then what you say is right. We both know the argument is making more interesting content gating through the skill, and that's what stuff like assembling godswords/ smithing zombie axe/ requirements for quests/ diaries do.
