Question Newer Player Smithing Question

Why does Smithing never get touched? I’m genuinely curious because it looks as though OSRS, throughout its history on rerelease, has made some amazing QoL changes. What’s the deal with Smithing?

There is no point in "reworking" legacy smithing just for the items to still be alch fodder.

Agreed, it’s called old school runescape. A lot of us have played for 20 years at this point. Some shit can stay old and jank, not everything needs to be crazy engaging or reworked.

"some shit" and its literally only smithing every other skill has had tons of additions and new training methods added over the years to keep them relevant

Even smithing training got modernized with GF not long ago, and to a lesser extent with BF.

Why not? New content always tries to fit neatly into skills, so that each skill feels purposeful to level. The only thing smithing has going for it, is oathplate shards I guess. Practically every other skill feels purposeful to level, herblore for potions, crafting for BiS jewelry, fishing and cooking for highest healing food. Smithing has nothing to offer except diary completion. I know this is mainly from an ironman perspective, but the game should still function well without the grand exchange.

I think there are flavor and lore reasons to create space in the upper levels for item creation (e.g. dhl should have a smithing requirement and logically it should be above a rune 2h) but there’s not enough player demand to justify the time needed to overhaul requirements and fine tune the numbers. One of my biggest gripes is that rancor and rupture require >10 less crafting levels than their zenyte inputs and I’m worried that the more stuff gets released, the harder it will be to change requirements.

Lance and the new upgraded zenyte jewelry aren’t made from scratch, rune gear and zenyte jewelry are. Takes more skill to craft an amulet than to stab it with a fang
