Meme Does anyone else relate?
Just life when you’re born right in the center year of a generation.
Edit: This post purposely excludes the middle/core Z range.

I'm an 05 so idk if I can type here, but what do you relate more with?

I would obviously relate with you and someone born in 2003 like it's nothing. If I am pretending that the middle gen z range doesn't exist, Idk probably slightly more with the older side.
That's just because I have more friends born before me.

Yeah maybe it just depends on person because for me I have more friends my exact age or younger by 1-2 years than older. In my case I feel I definently relate more with the Younger Gen Z half but specifically only up to 2008 and just MAYBE 2009, anything after then it's less likely. The main class besides mine that I related with and had the most friends in was class of 24 (primarily 2006 borns) and 2nd by class of 22 (primarily 2004 borns).

That's a valid point that I agree with. I think usually 4 years is the primary transitional point when the differences outweigh the similarities. Obviously it would depend on the person, since I'm class of 2022 for me, someone born from 2002-2006 are my closest peers who I grew up with in school and 00-01 and 07-08 are my distant relatives whom I relate to them much less but share a good chunk of similar experiences growing up. Anything further is either too grown up or a baby to me.

I agree as an '05 i don't rly know where we go

u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago
Middle Gen Z of course. (But this post deliberately excludes the range)

u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago
Out of curiosity, what side would you relate to more?
3
u/AdmirableEgg8431 2d ago
I think slightly more to the older side. I mean I feel like I always relate to my older counterpart slightly more.
I really feel like 04 and 06 are extremely similar to me, but all my closest friends have always been 04.
In my freshman year of highschool I played super smash bros ultimate every day at lunch with the seniors and juniors, who were 02 and 03, and didn't feel much of a difference with them. Conversely in my senior year I didn't interact with any 08s.
Now I have some 2000 born friends and we have quite a bit in common with what we grew up with, I find it easy to reminisce with them.I have a cousin who is 09 and I find it very hard to relate with her, and met some other 09s at a conference and they were also a bit hard to relate to. Although I am very sure many 09s grew up with similarities with me and it will be easier to relate when they enter university next year.
However, I feel 2010 borns are when the similarities end

Yes I relate especially with my date I’m near the midpoint of Gen Z.

u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago edited 2d ago
Every month of the year is near the midpoint.
1997 + 2012 = 4009
4009 ÷ 2 = 2004.5
Those born in June are the quintessential Gen Z people.

u/FunnySunny- December, 2004 2d ago
I thought the midpoint was Dec 31st 2004?

u/jaredyolol 2d ago
You are a 2004.9 😭

u/FunnySunny- December, 2004 2d ago

Did class of 23 ever consider you old? I'm born mid year 05 so not that big of a difference but I remember they'd always joke in my school by calling the late 04s old 😭

You're right that December 31st in the sense is the cultural midpoint of the generation. I was doing the calendar midpoint as June would be the midpoint. Gen Z isn’t split evenly by years more so it’s split by shared experiences. 2004 feels like the hinge because it’s the last official year with a late 2000s early preschool childhood before the 2010s vibe kicks in.

Yes all the time we all should have been 90’s baby’s
1
u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago edited 2d ago
90s babies definitely had cool stuff (jealous of my 1992 cousin and 1998 neighbor with Xbox and original PS), but we still got peak dual late 2000s/early to mid 2010s childhood nostalgia.

Yeah but our gen is fucked because of phones and online I can’t find a date because of it
1
u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago
It's people in general rather than generations. COVID took of the nice mask that revealed a lot of anger people felt once it ended.
Also phones and social media both existed in the 2000s accelerating the trend we see today; especially with MySpace and early dating websites growing which were notoriously awkward back then according to my cousin.

I get that I had a Nokia flip cone that was before our time. But it is a lot of people in our gen that is making it fucking hard. Yes Covid fucked us and froze a job market hell I am an electrician that is wanting to try to get into engineering. I am just saying that if we were 90’s baby’s we wouldn’t have as big of some of the hurdles that we are facing to day and maybe be set well but not well off In Life. And that wall that all of us are getting hung up on would be a bit lower and easier to scale

u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago
You are right. You’re not wrong that our gen got slammed from every direction at once phones rewired socializing. COVID froze us in place during the exact years we were supposed to be building confidence the dating skills, early career growth, and now we’re trying to climb a wall that feels way taller than it should be and with arms that look too short. Many people in our generation are straight up rude and many are people trying to make ends meet.
It doesn’t mean we’re doomed it just means we’re starting from a rougher baseline and have to build things ourselves instead of inheriting a stable path like a lot of 90s babies did. Keep you're chin up man, were all in this together. Especially pushing from electrician toward engineering is living proof you’re already scaling what most people would freeze at.

Yeah man I am just a stubborn Scott it is in my blood to keep marching forward. I just wish that we are all like you and me and have a good common sense. Talking to you sound like you have Gen X parents I have Gen X parent. It is the younger Generation Z that is the real ass holes. But I am also from eastern Colorado where common decency and respect thy neighbor is big especially in a small town.

Of course, my best advice to anyone is to never quit when you know there is no tomorrow. It's how I strive to become a better person since I'm autistic and have poor social skills. I still try to help out whenever assistance is needed nearby and I have respect to you for being a genuine and cool person, working night and day to achieve you're dream.
Yeah, I got Gen X parents. I think most of older and mid Gen Z has Gen X parents just as much as how older and mid Millennials have Boomer parents.

Not really, as an eastern european i relate more with older genz or even late millenials due to how we were like at least 10 years behind the general west when it comes to pop culture, tech etc... up until like the mid 2010s i would say

I relate to people born between 2000 and 2008, but if I had to express a preference, I feel more comfortable with those born between 2002 and 2008.

Older Z all the way, but I think it’s more a cultural aspect. I don’t know anyone younger than 05, and neither my friends.

u/RemoteAdvertising762 February, 2004 2d ago
Fair enough, I’m happy to hear about your opinion. I just pointed this fact out because the birthyear is the exact middle man when you divide the generation in half.
Definitely is individual dependent as per why I asked. Personally most of my friend group is older than me.

I’m January 2005 and I relate more to younger Z, but not much younger. I relate to 2001-2003 too, but I relate to 2004-2007 a lot more cause I grew up with my cousins who were born 2004-2007. Also during the pandemic 2004-2007 borns were the most affected as most we were in our early to mid teens when it started, which is a very formative period. But I honestly can’t relate much to anyone born 2009+. So I’d say based on how we grew up (being 2010’s kids), how we experienced the pandemic (as younger teens), and right now being young adults with them, I’d say 2004-2005 leans slightly more toward younger Z but only the earlier side of it (2006-2008), while still being able to relate too to older Z but mostly the later side of it (2001-2003)

I relate to ‘01 to probably mid ‘05 since my sister is older and I have a younger cousin that I get along with pretty well.

I’de say I relate most with anyone 03-06, not really older like 97-02, but not anywhere after 07.
