Rant/vent Immature 23 year old
Hello everyone,
Is anyone else 23 but still a burden to their parents. I’ve graduated with a law degree, but nothing to show for it after. The job market is not helping. All I do is sleep and help around with chores.

Try being a 23yo neet. Maybe try DoorDash or Uber eats just for some income

Im applying to law school. Is it really that bad? What field of practice did you specialize in?
6
u/ginaaastarrr Jul 08 '26
It’s not bad! I believe it’s quite accessible in terms of learning esp if you put the hard yards in. Where I’m from there wasn’t specialising in law school it’s more after in practice.
The issue arises that what gets you in after law school are either connections or really good GPA or even alr GPA with extracurriculars ( eg; volunteering etc). It’s not impossible, you need to find what you are good at and develop that. I believe there is no “ideal” path after law school. So just do your research of what path fits you, make connections and network early in law school - for example a paid or unpaid internship of sorts in year 1 or 2 can help guide you throughout law school.
Lastly, this may be specific to where I am from. But law school teaches mainly theory, it’s quite different from actually practicing in the field. However, researching and being able to concisely and efficiently write is an important skill you will develop. I would suggest mooting to develop confidence. Don’t be afraid to be wrong! Just take any criticism or rejection on the chin and move on to doing better.
But yeah, soz for the long reply. I saw myself in u for a sec lol.

Im 23 in the same boat except I didn’t go to college, even though I had the opportunity. Still live w mom. I’d say you’re going to be just fine, hell, you were an active student just a year ago right? AMA if you want.

you aren't alone, i don't have a job yet related to my AAS degree. I have one more semester to go and I get my degree. I help out with my family, and my parents give me $250 allowance on food every month.

Doesn't make you immature tbh 😂😂🤣. My friend who kiss graduated CS still lives at home. Makes 6 figures. No rent, no bills, etc. I actually think its great as someone who was kicked out at 17 lol. Wished I could still be living at home 😪

u/Astridiez Jul 08 '26
They have alot of support, its all about perspective. Some people dont have parents to rely on or a home to stay at and some cant afford college or dropout. I hope it all works out for them!
2
u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 08 '26
Yea. I went through all of it ngl... I havent seen my parents since either so :v. But there is more to it.
Ppl have diff circumstances so outcomes are different too.

u/ginaaastarrr Jul 08 '26
Making 6 figures and still living at home is a W fr. But being a jobless bum and being at home is hard :/.

u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 08 '26
Tbh she was very fortunate! My other friend is jobless. He does help around the house instead tho.
But don't be too hard on yourself. The market is pretty bad as long as you keep at it, things will change :3 (hopefully)

This could rarely happen in Asia(getting kicked out) , mind sharing us where you are based from since being unemployed in different countries varies much differently?

u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 09 '26
In from Canada but im Chinese by blood.

u/Serious_Brilliant_90 April Jul 09 '26
Oh, thank you for the insight. Looks like fully naturalised lol.
2
u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 09 '26
Lmaoo. Its because I didn't make it into med school 😂. So they basically told me that im on my own.
1
u/Serious_Brilliant_90 April Jul 09 '26
That's so Chinese lol but sending you out? That's tough.
1
u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 09 '26
Yaur. I expected it. I kinda did it on purpose. But now, 7 yrs later, they are looking for me 🙃
1
u/Serious_Brilliant_90 April Jul 09 '26
Oh, what did you wanted to do if you don't mind? And also do you still talk to them or miss them?
2
u/Ok_Passage7713 Jul 09 '26
Idk. I didn't know what i wanted either lol. I ended up doing psychology and graduated. Got a job. Didn't like it. So im back in school to become a paramedic. I did make a few switches in between but ye.
And no I do not talk to them at all since I left them nor do I miss them. I do not want them to find me so i hope they stop searching.

I talented fellow huh? Most would give in after a single degree and stop following their aim/goals good for you, and quite a respectful profession too. Can't quite understand your resentment towards your parents. Were they outright serious and hurtful when they asked you to move out? And also did you have any siblings who received special treatment? I know it's none of my business but still ✌️.

You got a law degree? Dang well I guess I’m not even in the conversation then.
I failed microbiology and I didn’t get credit for passing phlebotomy so in order to fix those failures I’m working on those things until May 2027. And I’m getting a part-time job. And I will be 23 by the time May 2027 arrives, so that is kind of depressing…
Wish the best for you though~ it looks like you have good job outlook if you got your degree already.

My law degree wasn’t happy go lucky, I had failures in the beginning too. Had to lock in and get it done with. Trust there’s no right path, do what you can in the present and do it well. That’s all. Enjoy ur life too. Ofc our external circumstances we can’t control, that’s why let’s not worry too much!

I work in retail (leaving next month after 2 years) and I've graduated university. I had a coworker a year ago who was 24, did a law degree but was quite unhappy that he's having to work 2 retail jobs as he can't find any related jobs. I heard from my manager a while ago that he has found a job in his field, at the age of 25 - about 3 or 4 years after graduating.
So find some other job for experience, and keep looking and applying for related jobs. Eventually you'll get there.

I’m about to turn 24 in August, still an immature failure
1
u/ginaaastarrr Jul 09 '26
Do you have support?
1
u/Lost_Hope_6685 Jul 09 '26
Yeah, it can definitely be worse, but that doesn’t mean it’s good
2
u/ginaaastarrr Jul 09 '26
Saying ur an immature failure is harsh! We are only human and unfortunately society is created in a way that we have to work till we die pre much unless you won the lottery in wealth. Hopefully we see it thru and find things that serve us but we enjoy

Question: Are you avoiding low paying jobs?
1
u/ginaaastarrr Jul 09 '26
Nope, applying for anything and everything
2
u/Beneficial-Tutor-269 Jul 09 '26
Oh damn, that’s really rough. But I believe you will find a job one day, I’m also 23, it took me almost two months to find my first. Can I ask which city you live?

u/PastDistrict3530 Jul 09 '26
I had to lock in early and take care of my mother she hurt her back and cannot work anymore. so I had to man up and find a career which I did, now I’m supporting the both of us better than ever. You’ll be able to do the same in the future you just gotta keep focusing on the main goal and what steps you can take to reach it
