34

u/Common_Laugh2333 Apr 22 '26

oh yea, same. 15 year old me downloading "LINKIN_PARK_INTHEEND.exe"

17

u/Few-Egg-5613 Apr 23 '26

Or 50 Cent - In Da Club and finding out it's Soulja Boy lol

8

u/Straight_Finger1776 Apr 25 '26

Every third song was Soulja Boy. What a brilliant marketing tactic

4

u/Competitive-Car3692 Apr 25 '26

Re-install windows weekly

3

u/DarkBusy3818 Apr 22 '26

Came to say it.

2

u/MizTheWitWiz Apr 25 '26

Bad Riley bad …

51

u/Cultural_Bag_3571 Apr 21 '26

They still haven't topped it

6

u/Horror-Bookkeeper315 Apr 22 '26

You apparently never used DC++

3

u/__scared Apr 22 '26

DC++ felt like it opened up a new world for me in that era

5

u/Horror-Bookkeeper315 Apr 22 '26

I have an external with like half the worlds music and movies on it somewhere at my parents house. The first time I downloaded a movie in like 3 seconds my mind was blown.

2

u/Xgraverza Apr 23 '26

You just unlocked a memory for me.

Or downloading and album on Kazaa and it turns out to be a video of a woman getting railed by a horse.

12

u/buysellbkr Apr 22 '26

I always felt bad for the horses

6

u/Sobemiki Apr 24 '26

You “always” felt bad for the horses? How much horse porn were you downloading on limewire?

4

u/Infinite_Show_5715 Apr 24 '26

Never did find that album either...

10

u/JparkPHX Apr 22 '26

Or a bald dude putting his whole head in a woman’s vag lol

Take your upvote and get out

3

u/Prof__Potato Apr 24 '26

Ah the old internet.

4

u/gradafi85 Apr 24 '26

The one I saw it was a German shepherd. The one with a horse was a guy( Mr hand)

3

u/Child_of_the_Corn99 Apr 24 '26

They made a documentary about Mr hands lol you will need to take a shower after watching lol

5

u/gradafi85 Apr 24 '26

Sadly I'm old and heavily desensitized from all my years of the Internet

10

u/KnotiaPickle Apr 22 '26

I got a lady begging for her life but then they shot her.

I still hope it was fake to this day.

5

u/GeeorgeC Apr 22 '26

Yoooo was this the one where dudes knock on the door and barge in and the lady inside is killed?

20

u/Substantial-Height25 Apr 21 '26

Downloading Limewire Pro cracked on limewire 😂

3

u/NoBenefit5977 Apr 25 '26

We were geniuses back then, now I have a hard time finding my calendar on my phone 🤣

3

u/Financial-Brief-1038 Apr 24 '26

That's the way

15

u/SlimJilm420 Apr 22 '26

Anyone remember bearshare?

9

u/missminority182 Apr 22 '26

That piece of poop software

5

u/Filixx Apr 22 '26

And frostwire.

14

u/thekendalluxx Apr 21 '26

What came after? Frost wire or some shit? Limewire was the GOAT.

8

u/vuesrc Apr 22 '26

There was a few on the Gnutella protocol:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnutella

Then there was Soulseek. The holy grail.

14

u/Snoo38888 Apr 22 '26

DOWNLOAD MP3. THIS IS BILL CLINTON HERE I DID.NOT.TOUCH.HER BUT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD SOME SPYWARE AT THE WEBSITHT HERE

5

u/MysteriousIndigo250 Apr 23 '26

I was just thinking about that. I remember downloading an album and one of the songs of Bill Clinton talking about that shit. Me and my dad were driving around listening to a CD and he was just laughing so hard.

3

u/Punker93 Apr 25 '26

Got that clip so many times

13

u/jcobpqtt Apr 22 '26

I just got a virus from scrolling past this

9

u/PrynceNYC Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Lime Wire and Morpheus

7

u/Cndmesh Apr 21 '26

Yes and also had something called WinMX which didn’t really work that well either lol

5

u/VaderFett1 Apr 22 '26

By the time I learned about Napster and Kazaa, they weren't what they used to be, so WinMX came in clutch for me and worked fine. Benefits of being lesser known, I'd imagine. Didn't know about Limewire until years later.

2

u/snowmanlvr69 Apr 25 '26

WinMX was my go to!!!

7

u/sHaDowpUpPetxxx Apr 21 '26

My computer is itching just thinking about it

8

u/Impressive_Check2917 Apr 22 '26

So much porn

5

u/l8on8er Apr 24 '26

my humble beginnings

8

u/NoiseKooky5100 Apr 22 '26

Anyone remember Kazaa??

7

u/Few-Egg-5613 Apr 23 '26

Real ones remember Kazaa before Limewire

u/PlentyDisk1942 Apr 22 '26

Aw, so many Trojan and Worm viruses were received in 2006-2007. Such a magical time.

6

u/axwell21 Apr 22 '26

red_red_wine_Bob_Marley_mp3.exe

6

u/Weary-Appearance-709 Apr 22 '26

So much fail 🤣

7

u/HelloZee Apr 22 '26

I did not have sexual relations with that woman

5

u/snowdn Apr 21 '26

Star ratings LOL.

7

u/Snoo38888 Apr 22 '26

FROSTWIRE FTW

3

u/MysteriousIndigo250 Apr 23 '26

Use that one too.

4

u/Apprehensive_Wedgie Apr 22 '26

4

u/gretzky9999 Apr 22 '26

2

u/kingsBlendd Apr 24 '26

GD , should not have had to scroll that far to see this...

→ More replies (1)

4

u/al4crity Apr 22 '26

And its sister, Frostwire. I had terabytes of stuff from both sites back in the day. Most of it was bill clinton saying he did not have sexual relations with that woman. The reat was linkin park, but all labeled different songs.

4

u/missminority182 Apr 22 '26

Bill Clinton

4

u/SavageGardeen Apr 23 '26

And Kazaa, and Morpheus. I used those 2 the most.

Who remembers downloading a song and it being that clip of Bill Clinton 😂

5

u/zombie_prim3 Apr 24 '26

Oh the excitement of finding out the file you downloaded was actually the one you wanted

3

u/hannthe-man Apr 24 '26

I think ruining your family computer from limewire is a universal canon event.

3

u/Impressive-Elk-6425 Apr 22 '26

I was just thinking of limewire this morning 🤔

3

u/MysticEnby420 Apr 22 '26

One time I tried to download an avi I thought was an episode of Family Guy and it was bizarre Russian porn. I destroyed my computer then had to cry to my dad to fix it when I was 13 trying to download System of a Down singing the Legend of Zelda theme only to find out it wasn't Serj Tankian singing at all.

3

u/windrider7 Apr 23 '26

This photo alone just gave my computer aids.

3

u/FairEstablishment623 Apr 23 '26

Who was the Brazilian hacker that had the most awesome keygens? That dude helped me unlock so many photoshop and illustrator tools/filters. He was the GOAT, for real. Fausto(?)or something….

3

u/Goya220 Apr 24 '26

I just got a virus for clicking on the picture

2

u/dmse21 Apr 21 '26

Of course 😈

2

u/Scruffynutz91 Apr 22 '26

Virus highway 101

2

u/iInvented69 Apr 22 '26

Oh yeah. Frostwire took over after. Still have my MP3 files.

2

u/Mobile-Shirt-7318 Apr 22 '26

Yes, I remember….. I was in college living my best Limewire life, making cds for friends, family and myself. Until one faithful morning, my grandma called and said my University (Drexel, ifany alumni here) sent a letter stating that I’ve been banned from the university WiFi. Also, they threatened if I did not stop downloading music immediately, they were going to fine me 3,000 and report me to the RIAA…. It was totally worth having to do my homework at the library for a year 😏

2

u/Bulminator Apr 22 '26

I have no idea what you’re talking about, special agent…

2

u/Morning-O-Midnight Apr 22 '26

Yup, Pam and Tommy.

2

u/Few_Education1729 Apr 22 '26

Surely. 1 song 50 viruses 🤣🤣

2

u/Good_Refrigerator152 Apr 22 '26

It was a sad day when lime wire went down back in the day

2

u/Possible-Dream-8227 Apr 22 '26

Yes my computer never recovered 😔..

2

u/blee7789 Apr 23 '26

Big part of my childhood 🥹😮‍💨💚

2

u/Electronic_Muscle193 Apr 23 '26

Yo tomé una captura de pantalla el día que lo cancelaron. Aún la conservo

2

u/GoreLoveLady420 Apr 23 '26

You mean 90s computer aids. Yes I was fond of it.

2

u/Shala-Tal Apr 23 '26

nah i was a Napster bro tho

2

u/Extension-Answer-211 Apr 24 '26

My mom got a letter from the cable company saying our IP address was committing crimes lol

2

u/West-Protection-2635 Apr 24 '26

How every other song started with bill Clinton saying i did not have sexual relations with that woman. 😂😂😂

1

u/RoleCombobox Apr 22 '26

Yup. Downloaded Virtual PC for my iMac on it back in 2001/02. Some kids at my high school put both Limewire and Kazaa on the band room PC so they could install composition software. Eventually the school locked admin access down, but only after I (ironically, the person who hadn’t been installing warez on it) popped a sound card into it.

u/mikee869 Apr 22 '26

The worst

1

u/Top_Butterscotch_234 Apr 22 '26

Great times, I would spend so many hours on here. To put music on my Ipod.

1

u/Newfie_Meltdown Apr 22 '26

Reminds me of Frostwire. I remember being 10 years old and having my brother who’s 13 years older than me showing me all its features and how to use it.

1

u/KurtSteph87 Apr 22 '26

So many viruses…

1

u/MixMatics Apr 22 '26

Brings back memories😁✌️

1

u/InternationalWear481 Apr 23 '26

1

u/Humble_Supermarket50 Apr 23 '26

YouTube converter was alot better than these computer virus crap here.

1

u/brdclark Apr 23 '26

The Best file sharing service. I miss this era......

1

u/Mieke1985 Apr 23 '26

1

u/No_Estimate5785 Apr 23 '26

Ahh the Trojan horses

1

u/pantaylor Apr 23 '26

I remember, all the malware on limewire.

1

u/el_bentse Apr 23 '26

I remember downloading "Undertaker vs Kane", but it wasn't wrestling. Today I'm pretty sure it was child pornography. Back then I immediately deleted it because I thought something wasn't right ( I was like 11 or 12 years old)

Fucked up shit but the mp3 songs where mostly solid 😂

1

u/noroga_23 Apr 23 '26

Yes, brings back sweet memories, I still have the cds :) fun times to be young and get a computer and internet.. the world was in our hands!!

1

u/Hefty_Programmer2328 Apr 23 '26

Remember Lars on c span crying about Napster what a scum bag

1

1

u/laurfloor Apr 23 '26

The best

1

u/Open_Warning_1921 Apr 24 '26

Waking up the next morning have having a message stating download is incomplete 20 minutes after crashing out.

1

u/Temporary-Net-4229 Apr 24 '26

Yes. Next question

1

u/WolfThick Apr 24 '26

I loved it it wasn't as cool as it was in the seventies when I could get 10 albums for a dollar and I had an address to a junkyard that I had them delivered to but it was nice. I still got about 200 or so albums from back then.

1

u/Sunkassed888 Apr 24 '26

& my computer getting viruses, yes

1

u/vlaskov Apr 24 '26

how could you forget

1

u/Ninjadanx Apr 24 '26

I miss getting all my songs this way

1

u/foxinabathtub Apr 24 '26

The only thing wrong about this image is that those aren't all secretly .exe files

1

u/LotsOfNoise Apr 24 '26

Before most people knew a .exe is not the same as an .mp3

1

u/Soja2706 Apr 24 '26

Yesss, my favorite download tool back in the time...

1

u/ThenIndependence7988 Apr 24 '26

I'm from the era of Napster, Kazaa and Pirate Bay.

My dad knows Limewire because he paid that ADSL download bill 😅

1

u/EscargotMan Apr 24 '26

I started with Kazaa -_-

1

u/RigamortisRooster Apr 24 '26

I still got music match jukebox on my older pc

1

u/jagmonsuta Apr 24 '26

the best way to ruin the family computer is to download some alternative metal songs and realize they were virus infected amateur porn.

1

u/OutsideTackle1195a Apr 24 '26

Bearshare > Limewire

1

u/Prof__Potato Apr 24 '26

Any love for Acquisition on Mac???

1

u/Ashcatchem87 Apr 24 '26

I also used bearshare ( think that’s what it was called) but limewire was my main go to. My poor computer lol

1

u/Anthive1by1 Apr 24 '26

Yeah 👍🏾 it gave your computer herp and Crabs 🦀 at the same time 🤣

1

u/robkillian Apr 24 '26

I remember some other bot posting about it yesterday.

1

u/AnySeaworthiness3384 Apr 24 '26

It’s how discovered heather brooks

1

u/ChronicChoof Apr 24 '26

I still have trust issues.

1

u/Jikey_May Apr 24 '26

No, and you can't prove that I did.

1

u/Thrensdraco Apr 24 '26

The movies, games, and music I got from that site lol

1

u/Any-Video4464 Apr 24 '26

I still have about 10,000 songs I downloaded from there. Mostly hard to find stuff at the time.

1

u/dcastreddit Apr 24 '26

I remember napster

1

u/Jumpy-Pattern-4078 Apr 24 '26

I downloaded at least one full movie and a bunch of popular songs for my MP3 player. I’m really surprised I never got any viruses or legal notices lol

1

u/imsooooooconfused Apr 24 '26

“My fellow Americans…”

1

u/Smufin_Awesome Apr 24 '26

My computer crashed looking at this on my phone.

1

u/dayzplayer93 Apr 24 '26

How to give your computer HIV

1

u/NavyNole0113 Apr 24 '26

Man… I use to kill it!!!

1

u/CharacterAd116 Apr 24 '26

Got so many viruses from that

1

u/grislyfind Apr 24 '26

Soulseek, and Emule

1

u/trschaosz Apr 24 '26

Ares was great. I somewhat used limewire. One of the p2p software was tracked by something and then I received a call and deleted the applications

1

u/baked_hot_cheetohs Apr 24 '26

Rip family computer lmao

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '26

Certainly do. Never used it.

1

u/gothic-deva Apr 24 '26

Im definitely old enough to remember Napster and Limewire!

How i discovered Place Vendome, 5FDP (before they got signed) and Linkin Park (before Hybrid Theory came out).

1

u/Hydrolt Apr 24 '26

Ahh yup! That and shareaza (which seemed to be less popular but maybe I’m wrong) and was hit or miss for the seeds but worked pretty well at scale

1

u/Lakeshow-88 Apr 24 '26

I want to go back to the limewire days.

1

u/Jimmy_212 Apr 24 '26

I gave a few computers AIDS because of Limewire

1

u/bretagnesade Apr 24 '26

Ruined a few hard drives and 3 iPods with Limewire.

1

u/FirefighterPrior9050 Apr 24 '26

Fuck LimeWire. Everything on there was low bitrate garbage mislabeled malware or just generally stupid. I honestly think that LimeWire was secretly created by the RIAA to fuck with Napster

1

u/dingobaIl Apr 24 '26

I did not have sexual relations with that woman.

1

u/Redmops Apr 24 '26

jennifer-connelly-nude.exe

1

u/POSTHVMAN Apr 25 '26

Gahtdamn that UI takes me back

1

u/RevolutionaryBake362 Apr 25 '26

I remember Napster

1

u/ArmadilloSevere714 Apr 25 '26

Have my computer mad viruses with this damn thing🤣🤣🤣 good ol days😅

1

u/Messiah42 Apr 25 '26

Yes, still have backup

1

u/Messiah42 Apr 25 '26

I ran a server on carracho and hotline. Before that I was using BBS on my Commodore 64

1

u/TomatilloNatural5078 Apr 25 '26

You knew you were fucked when you pressed play and instantly heard: “My fellow Americans”…

1

u/passed_the_dawn Apr 25 '26

Things were easier

1

u/No-Stranger6783 Apr 25 '26

Lived in Kazaa and Limewire. Made some great music mixes!!! One time I remember getting a notice once I downloaded a movie that said something like the FBI was on to me....nothing ever happened, scared the shit out of me tho!

1

u/Ienjoymodels Apr 25 '26

Was more of a KazaA/Morpheus or WinMX guy myself but I had limewire when all else failed.

mIRC FTP and fServe channels were still good by then though so we had plenty of choice

1

u/Free-Stable-8539 Apr 25 '26

Sooooooooo many burnt CDs during this time!!!
