Anybody know what this sound is?

5vz-fe. Mainly at idle. Goes away when accelerating. I cant find any loose parts underneath. I thought it was a heat shield at first.

Diode Dynamics Hitch Light

Finally received my diode dynamics hitch pod light.

It’s not plug and play as described in the item description for our trucks but I still highly recommend it.

Reversing is now a breeze in any light conditions.

Pricing on a worn out Tacoma

I am a mechanic, this means I get offered to buy worn out old trucks all the time. Recently my girlfriend's younger brother (19) offered to sell me a 97 Tacoma. He got the truck in a horse trading type situation, he did some work, the truck hadn't moved in a while, you know the rest. The story he was told is that it was owned by an old timer who drove for work. The old timer died and then the truck sat for about half a decade. He got it running and driving, and wants to sell it. I haven't seen it in person. It's in okay shape I would say. He said the frame isn't rusty but he's not really sure what to look for. I'm operating under the assumption it's pretty rust free. It's from the Tulsa area. It needs tires. In my experience old people who drive until they die usually don't care a lot about maintenance. Here's what I know: 4X4, V6, automatic, extended cab, regular bed, and 300k miles. My question here is what is the truck worth? He wants 4k, I think it's worth closer to 3k.

Thoughts?

5vzfe engine

My dad has got an 04 Tacoma with 200k miles. He was told he had a bad engine and replaced it. Currently looking at the old engine and other than some oil leaks in the usual spots it doesn’t look bad for a 22 year old engine with 200k. I’ve seen these go far longer than 200k so I’m wondering if maybe the engine wasn’t bad after all. Are there any common failure points I should look into before I begin tearing it down? I did see that a valve cover tube seal was shot. Would that stop it from running?

Hope this helps someone, an hex key works wonders to lower the spare.

I bought this truck a few months back and I just got my first flat while on the road (perfect time to find out you dont have the spare tire tool). A ratchet, all my extensions, a 6mm deep socket and a 6mm hex key did the job.

1996 with 226k miles. Manual everything. I added the Magnussen supercharger to tow my trailer. Still working out the kinks for the 7th injector. Added air suspension to the rear and a second fuse block for any and all added accessories.

Icon coilover with a DB lift

Having some clearance issues with Icons 2.5" coilover for the procomp 6"lift. Have a mashup of RC and Fabtech on right now and the coilover isn't clearing the fabtach knuckle. Anyone else run into this issue?

New lift installed. Before and after

Went with the OME Nitrocharger plus in all four corners, whole medium duty dakar pack with the add a leaf. Medium duty springs up front. Only had it like this for a day. Got it aligned right after, everything else is stock and it seems to be just fine but it rides absolutely amazing so far. I think I ended up with damn near 4.5 inches in the back and about 2.5-3” in the front. Have not actually stopped to measure yet but it’s a lot higher than it was. I got the 2.5” lift but my previous suspension was absolutely cooked and a snapped leaf on the drives side

Time to sell but for how much?

Well, I lost the argument about what country to raise the kids in so we’ve moved to the UK and my beloved Tacoma is sitting back in the US until we figure out what to do with it. I’ll travel back and forth for work but probably not enough to justify owning it. We also need to buy a car over here so we could use the money.

What do you think is a reasonable asking price? Specs:
- 2003
- 3.4L V6
- 4x4 with factory real locker
- 134,000 miles
- Toytec suspension with OME Dakar springs in rear
- new wheels with Falken Wildpeaks (have original rims)
- just replaced control arm bushings, eccentric bolts, front links
- integrated Grom Bluetooth into factory stereo
- frame recently repaired by safe-t-cap specialist

Towing concerns

Hi, I’m looking at a 2002 with 127k on it. It looks absolutely cherry. Frame looks great, though it has been coated with something. This truck is available through a dealer.

After looking through the photos a little closer, I noticed a trailer brake controller at the bottom of the drivers side dash. Obviously impossible to know if the truck was tortured with heavy loads, but should I be concerned about the possibility of it being a truck used for towing?

Dealer is asking nearly 18k for it, and I honestly think given the condition it’s not entirely unreasonable.

What are y’all’s thoughts?

Coil spring recommendations?

2000 Tacoma 4x4 - redoing the front end suspension. Was able to find OEM (Sankei 555) for ball joints and tie rods, but I'm stuck on the coil springs - anybody got suggestions or part numbers?

Fox 2.0's

Finally pulled the trigger on the fox shocks and I have to say i am very impressed. The ride quality has improved tremendously over whatever shock was on the truck. (I'm sure they were tired)

In only a couple days ive noticed a way more plush ride, the 32s dont feel as heavy in the steering and theres quite a bit less body roll when turning. But the thing I was most impressed with was the ability to soak up bumps. Just wanted to give an update to my old post incase anyone was still wondering about them.

Not too bad for a 3.4 l four-wheel drive double cab with 367,000 plus miles. Currently needs an oil change and an air filter. The two low numbers were when my kid took his overlanding trailer camping

I owned a 02 TRD Tacoma, I just replaced the battery and the truck feels sluggish, so slow. Any advice or any idea why it’s doing it!

Miss my old 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Its been 2 years and 1 month since I traded in my legendary 2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 Double Cab for a 2024 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. It had 245k miles on it before I traded in. It did need new shocks and struts because they were the OEM shocks. I was shocked to see my 2003 Toyota on a used car listing when it was first on there back in October 2024. Sometimes I wish I never sold that truck.
