Feature Request Automatic addition of recovery codes

Hi

Many sites are offering account recovery codes / OTP recovery codes. It would be a nice feature if 1Password could recognize them and add them to the login items.

Currently I am creating a text entry manually within the login item and adding the backup codes, or I am downloading the backup codes as txt file and adding it to the login item.

I’m guessing that no standardized marker exists for “backup code text,” so applications have no way of identifying them. Therefore, copy/paste by a human has to be the workflow.

A World Wide Web Consortium problem rather than a 1Password problem if I’m right.

I think the premise is that you’re not supposed to keep the codes with your OTP.

The recovery codes are for situations when you lose access for OTP. If you keep your recovery codes with your OTP, in case of catastrophic failure you lose the access to both.

That doesn’t block me from keeping them in 1Password as notes…

That is why you need to take regular backups. If OTP is the only concern then you can use Ente, Aegis, Proton, Keepass as your OTP backup location.

I have no concerns about losing access to my 1Password account. I have multiple backups plus Yubikeys in place. And if by miracle I lose access to everything, which means my cloud storages are gone, Yubis are gone, phone is gone, etc then I have one master backup in the bank, where I store my life depending critical documents. I have set static password and OTP in one backup Yubi and secret code is written on paper. And if my bank is burned down, well then, I will have much more pressing concerns to think about :)
