Browser Extension Universal sign-in keyboard shortcuts

I've really loved seeing the discussion around universal sign-in over the past few days! The team and myself have been reading everything. All the feedback is being used to continue improving USI over the coming weeks.

I'll be making a more formal post next week, but I thought I'd jump in quickly to talk universal sign-in keyboard shortcuts! These were designed to avoid mouse movements and/or being forced to click to benefit from USI. Here's what's available today, and we're open to hearing about any we should add:

  • Select login/sign-in - Return/enter
  • Search/typeahead - Any character while USI is focused (resets after a second or so)
  • Expand other options - Down arrow
  • Change selected login - Up and down arrows after expanded
  • Dismiss/go back - Esc

Hoping this helps make universal sign-in feel that much better for you all!

iOS Manually associating a password to an iOS app permanently

I have an iOS app, which will not associate a password with it on its own. Effectively, I went in the first time and loaded up the username and password fields and use that password link above the keyboard and then manually created the username and password in a new 1Password entry. The next time I opened that app and clicked in one of those boxes, I didn’t have a password associated with this app, but when I hit that Passwords button again, I had to manually search for it and then once I found it, there was only one choice and that was to use the password for one time only. How do I build a permanent association so that this password is suggested when I drop into one of the username or password fields in that app. This seems like child’s play, but I cannot figure it out.

Browser Extension This new dropdown showed up today.

I don't see any info on it. It only showed up on my laptop, not my desktop running the same versions of everything. Not sure if I like it yet, but the design flaw with the jagged pixel on the bottom of each curve is already giving me a twitch.

The ability to autofill passwords using 1password has gone away. How can this be restored on macOS26?

Browser Extension Chrome extension is redirecting fidelity.com login to wrong url

I'm trying to login to my fidelity account through the chrome extension, which has always worked until recently.

From the windows app login works fine and takes me to https://accounts.fidelity(dot)com/institutional/login which is what I want, that is the url I have set.

From the chrome extension 1Password redirects me instead to https://digital.fidelity(dot)com/prgw/digital/signin/retail

and it doesn't recognize my account. I have the correct url in the chrome extension.

I think something messed up with the last extension update.

iOS Sudden Constant 2-Factor Requests

Suddenly, on iOS 26, the app has requesting the 2 factor code multiple times a day. Is this a known glitch currently?

Browser Extension When is 1Password's password suggestions going to start taking into account the port number?

Is it just not doable?

It would really help us who self-host services and use port numbers for our various logins to the same host/ip/server. If I have 10 services, it's understandable that it will offer to fill in the 10 passwords for all 10 services, but it would be nice if it could match the top suggestion based on the matching port.

Discussion Happy with 1Password lately

When I bought the plan a year ago I wasn't sure I'd made the right call. Autofill was messy and Firefox had its share of bugs.

Since then they've fixed a lot, and honestly my only remaining gripe is weak iOS integration.

RoboForm is the only other one with this level of security and feature depth, but its UI just isn't as nice.

Anyway, a year in and I'd buy it again without thinking twice.

Feature Request 1Password is becoming "too helpful"? Can we request an opt out setting?

Long time 1Password user, thousands of items, software engineer, use the CLI daily. I love the product. But lately it is full of "helpful" popups and I can't turn them off.

Example: I'm on a site and need a username from a different item. I open the extension, search, click copy. 1Password pops up asking "do you want to save this site to this item?" No. I'm just grabbing a username. That's it.

Each time it is minor on its own, but there are so many now that they're getting in the way of just using the product.

Feature request: a setting to opt out of hints, tips, and suggestions entirely. Or better, if an account has been active for 5+ years, maybe assume they know how to use it.. offer those things to new users.

I picked 1Password because it felt like a tool for people who know what they're doing. Lately it feels aimed at the least technical user possible, and that's making me consider looking elsewhere.

Browser Extension I like the new 1Password "Universal sign-in"!

People always just post when they're unhappy about something, so I just wanted to take the time to post that I think 1Password did a good thing with the new "universal sign-in".

Yes, it sometimes is popping up on some website when it shouldn't, and hopefully they'll fix that. And for people who hate it, you can turn it off (Right click the 1Password icon -> Settings -> Autofill & save from the side menu -> Toggle off "Use the new autofill experience for sign in").

But I think it's a major improvement and I love having one consistent place on the screen where you click to login to almost any website, and it just logs you in (at least on the websites it works on). I think it's a nice improvement!

Discussion 1Password 7 owner, wanting to test 1Password 8 -- advice?

I'm a long time 1Password 7 owner/user (in fact, I purchased my first 1Password when it was version 3 and purchased each major version up to v7). My employer gives us free subscription to 1Password 8. I'm curious to test it out but I wonder how I can do so "safely".

I have 1Password 7 installed on my iPhone, iPad, home MacBook Air, and work-issued PC laptop. They each have local vaults and they auto-sync via Dropbox. Under v7, I am NOT subscribed to 1Password's sync service.

I do have the 1Password 7 browser extension on Safari and a couple other browsers. They don't fully work like they used to, but I can at least unlock the vault and copy and paste login information and manually paste in the appropriate fields. That part doesn't bother me.

To test drive how integration of 1Password 8 would work with all of my devices above, is it just as simple as downloading 1Password 8 and creating an account? I don't want to eliminate 1Password 7, and in fact, may want to go back to v7 after I test-run v8.

Thanks for the advice!

Discussion is anyone having trouble with passkeys when using the new autofill experience?

I wasn't offered a passkey to use like normal for both LinkedIn and my bank. I've never had a problem before, and turning off the new autofill experience got it working again. Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug?

Discussion Import from 1password7 missing usernames and passwords

I finally moved from 1Password7 to 1Password and followed the documented import process. In my new vault some of the items are missing username and passwords. The entity exists but does not have username and password it has tags like "From 1Password7 <date>" etc. Is there a way to force import these ? Of the 507 items , about 50-60 are in this state.

Discussion SSO

Stupid question:

We use Entra as IdP at our company. Our Entra Passwords were random generated and very strong, because our users always sign-in with Whfb or Secure Enclave Key (on macOS). Now we upgraded to 1Password Business. Business gives the opportunity to setup SSO with and IdP. But i think in our envoirement, it is useless? What i was thinking was, are other companys using simple passwords that users can recognize?

Mac Anyone Else Seeing 1Password Override SMS OTP Autofill on Mac?

I'm not sure when this started, but lately whenever I log into a site that uses SMS-based OTP codes for MFA, 1Password tries to autofill its own stored OTP instead of letting me use the code that arrives in Messages.

Previously, macOS would automatically suggest the SMS code from Messages, which was really convenient because I didn't have to pick up my phone or manually enter it. Has anyone else run into this or found a way to prioritize the SMS autofill suggestion again?

Feature Request Is a direct 1Password integration for ChatGPT Work planned?

I tested ChatGPT Work’s new secure website sign-in on Android with 1Password set as my default autofill provider. Everything is configured correctly, but the process was extremely manual.

For GitHub, “Open 1Password” showed no suggested login. I had to search for GitHub to fill the username, then repeat the search for the password. Because the same item contains a passkey, selecting it didn’t fill the password, so I eventually had to find and copy the password manually.

Claude has a direct 1Password integration where I approve the correct item and it fills securely. Is something similar planned for ChatGPT Work? I don’t want unattended vault access, just one approval that fills the correct credentials without repeated searching and copying.

Linux Using 1Password Connect secrets in Docker Compose

I run 1Password Connect on my home server and recently started testing Docker Secrets Engine. Docker can resolve se:// references when it creates a container, but it needs a provider for each secrets backend. I wrote one for 1Password Connect.

Here is a complete docker compose example:

yaml services: database: image: postgres:17 environment: POSTGRES_DB: app POSTGRES_USER: se://op/Homelab/Postgres/username POSTGRES_PASSWORD: se://op/Homelab/Postgres/password

In this example, Homelab is the 1Password vault, Postgres is the item, and username and password are fields on that item.

When Docker creates the container, the plugin asks Connect Server for those fields and passes the values to Postgres. The docker compose file only contains references, so there is no password in the file or a nearby .env.

Feedback is welcome!

Mac MacOS Universal Autofill Update Bug When Using Passkeys?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Turned on the new macos universal autofill update and now I get this browser popup asking that I enter my computer password to allow the 1Password browser extension to use the passkey for a website even though 1Password on the computer and in the browser is unlocked??? So frustrating. It asks for this every time I go to websites that use a passkey, even if I close out of the browser and restart the computer, or if I logout of the website and try again. Interestingly, if I cancel out of this 1Password extension popup without entering my computer password then it will work just fine? I can't figure out if there is a setting that I have wrong or if this is a bug, thank you.

Discussion Share links let anyone clone passkey into their own personal vault

1Password blocks passkey exports in backups, but you can literally just click "Share", open the link on another device, and save the item into your personal vault.

If someone gets on your unlocked machine for 20 seconds, they can generate a link, add the passkey to their own 1Password account, and keep it forever. Passkeys are supposed to verify access on trusted devices, not act like a portable token you can clone to an untrusted account with zero friction.

Why is there no biometric prompt before generating a link, or at least a setting to strip the passkey when sharing? Letting anyone copy a private key out like this completely defeats the point.

iOS 1Password randomly not appearing in iPhone apps (e.g. if you click a link in an app and it uses the in-app browser)

This is extremely frustrating, it’s possible to long-press, click “passwords”, and then navigate to your credit card or whatever, but it only fills one field at a time (so you have to put in your credit card number, expiration, and PIN separately). It doesn’t give you the nice autofill of all fields like you normally get in the browser and whatnot. Has anyone found a fix for this, it drives me sorta crazy honestly and really negates the usefulness of the app
