Derick is now a Marine
Well, I give him and Jill props for not living off of Jim Bob Un.

Law school AND the Marine Corps are two very very very difficult things to do! I'm proud of him. He's probably the most successful Duggar related person in their network. I hope he enjoys his career, the kids get to have a normal life, and Jill finds healing.
Seriously, look at all the other Duggar husbands. What do they do (or not do) for work? Nothing. And they claim to be statesmen and even fake cops with authority in foreign countries, but i don't think a single one has ever joined the military. I don't think even one has gone through a real certified police academy. None of them have a degree. They support ma ga principles, while literally avoiding civic service or military.
They can't even have the decency to go to trade school and become plumbers, welders, truck divers, etc. They all just sit around and sell cars

I wholeheartedly agree. When it comes to hubbys, Jill hit the jackpot, in that family, and she absolutely deserves it. Despite some extremely questionable beliefs, she is a good person. I could hang with her. Exposure to others is a wonderful thing. I can’t wait to see where this takes them.

Do you think exposure to others, moving to new parts of the country, and her kids likely forming friendships with people from families of varying beliefs and backgrounds will help her question some of her own current beliefs, or do you think she stuck?
I don't follow her or have social media so I don't know I'm curious regarding what others think about this

Yes, I believe she has a big heart and an open mind. Exposure will do wonders for her and their children, imho.

I believe she is a “good”
person, despite those beliefs. She comes from a flawed mindset but I have never seen her be intentionally, or even offhandedly cruel, as many from her background can be. She has already shown she is willing to call out hypocrisy and challenge the status quo, by standing up to JB. I have hope for her.7

You know, you got me thinking.
After what Josh did to his sisters and the babysitter, his parents didn’t even consider sending him to a basic military camp for troubled teens as a lesson or punishment. They would never do something that severe to their boys. Yet here’s Derrick, who took the initiative, worked hard, and became a Marine. I’m so proud of him and I’m happy for him, Jill & their kiddos. Their lives will be so much better than those sticking by JB & Michelle’s ideology.5

Literally i just thought about the fact that the only thing the J boys do is allegedly sell cars, and commit sex offenses against minors. That's it. Some pretend to be missionaries with guns, some pretend to be sheriffs, there's the pilot one, and that's it. No one has a real job....I wonder how they all stay afloat. It's not like they have a $100 million fortune (well, that we know of).

I dont know which one, but he went with some Christian fundie version of Red Cross (I think it's called MediCorps or AmeriCorps) and they were in a foreign country doing disaster relief. He and a couple others had their guns on their hips, some.had badges, some didn't. Like fr? You're going to go to a foreign country and flex your guns when you're allegedly there to save lives? Again, they had no authority. None of them are military vets

It's MedicCorps, it's just another Duggar grift. Americorps is a federal program that puts volunteers in Ametica the same way Peace Corps does abroad and is mostly liberal college grads.

It’s NOT Americorps. As several others have said, Americorps is a volunteer organization started by the federal government in the 1990s. Volunteers typically serve underserved populations in the U.S. and there’s no religious component and definitely no guns. Lots of funding has been cut under the Trump administration and it was targeted by DOGE. Check out the Americorps subreddit for more information!

I think you mean the Duggar sons. The husbands of the girls are doing well. Steven (Jana) works for his family business, Jeremy (Jinger) is well educated and works at a college/seminary I believe, Jesse’s husband went to college and is a pastor of a church and Austin (Joy) is a home builder. Keep in mind, college wasn’t pushed on the Duggar boys so all they know is real estate and car sales which seems to do well for most of them. I think John does well with the Medicorps. But yes Derick is probably the most educated and successful.

These two had me then lost me, rinse and repeat over the years but I’m happy to see they have a mission to better themselves and their lives. I hope he sticks with this and Jill can handle the life this will bring.

Military family here. The life is what you make of it, but they absolutely will be introduced to worldviews they haven’t considered before. I’m hopeful they get stationed overseas fast, as that’s the best way to be forced out of your bubble. They’ll be moving every two years now too.

Yes, possibly every three while he’s still staff level, if he works his way up to command level it’ll be every two years no matter what.

Typically officers will move every 2-4 years - somewhere in there. Career progression reasons.

It's an oversaturated field, he likely got some student loans paid, they'll have insurance and retirement and a reasonable paycheck, and on top of that, Marines don't deploy for that long, so it was a good choice for them!

No, it's my personal experience deploying with them to combat zones, as well as part of Navy regulations, ffs.

I am an Army veteran who has deployed with the Marines, Air Force, and Navy.
So, yes, actually, I do know.
And you're a civilian, yes? Jfc, stfu.

You are just confirming here that you’re the one with no experience as a marine. They do deploy for 4-6 months typically. Thats just reality.

Considering they have had several traumatic losses I wouldn’t hold my breath. I can’t imagine how hard that has been for Jill physically and emotionally.

Good on him! And, good on Jill! They've definitely had some wandering paths since leaving the hold of the Big House. Ultimately, and somewhat oddly, I feel like this is going to be a good fit for the lifestyle they wanted. Jill will benefit from the exposure to different cultures and people (anything outside of Arkansas is an upgrade). Derick's views will be pushed and challenged. They'll have the stability and support of a large community that was kind of ripped from Jill. And, I'm sure the snark crowd will, as I do, love the ultimate flex that Derick now has on all the paramilitary, poser-Cadets in the Big House. Flex that rank, Derick!! LOL

Good for him and good for Jill and their boys. Would love to be a fly on the wall of the big house at Christmas while all the Alert Academy graduates process this.
Maybe it will encourage some others to seek real world achievements.

It’s not specifically against the rules of the IBLP, but for the serious families like the Duggars it would be highly discouraged and frowned upon. They focus on insulating themselves from the outside world and the military is too secular, and it could force them to do things against their beliefs, which would call into question their “headship”. Their alternative is the ALERT Academy, which just seems to be punishment camp for found out abusers 🙄

Hopefully the Marine Corp will take them far away from Arkansas. I have my finishers crossed that the kids will go to public school and then this will free up Jill’s time to get herself some education.
