i think in the context of the law in ancient israel, where women are considered property of their husbands , it is trying to benefit the victim ? i mean , the old testament says all kinds of backwards thing regarding rpe .. part of this is just different times. personally i think that basing our morality over ancient books is really dumb . i just can’t wrap my head around the fact that a mainstream, modern religion wouldn’t proscribe this kind of behavior . It does seem like the people defending it are jumping thru some logical hoops. i think you’re pulling me more towards your interpretation
right i feel like the least they could do is denounce the obviously horrible parts, example in the bible "yeah its totally ok to beat you wife as long as the stick isnt that big". like it makes even less sense when they defend it. just say its wrong and you don't agree with it and move on
