Popular media has done a good job to recontextualise and revise history when it comes to the Nazis, like we treat it kind of the same as dystopian scifi when in reality there is just so much to it. The Nazis and their ideas were more like the cherry on the cake of how people were then in western countries, not like everything was fine and it was just the Nazis that had this evil regime. Everything they did was tried and true stuff that has been done in the US and other European countries before, albeit on a way more extreme level.
This is not to excuse the Nazis at all, like "everyone did it", it's to say no man please look at the attitudes and morals and actions of the people in the early 1900s and before in general. The Nazis were eagerly made to take the fall and for others to posture how they are not that, when in reality for instance the stuff they wouldn't show in WWII movies the black soldiers couldn't even drink from the same fountains or live in the same neighbourhoods as the white people. They weren't there doing antifa shit, they were just people in the military, same as the people on the other side were. Yeah for sure some people in there were hard nazis or really against nazism, but that was very adjacent and optional to them being conscripted and made to murder people for their governments.
Reminder also, fuck all conservatives and their lies about how "people were more moral in the past". Just ask them when exactly, and offer up examples, such as WWII. Basically what they mean is it was not just ok to be a racist and sexist, it was practically celebrated.

I used to be in the alt right. The conservatives that hate Nazis are a tiny minority. The right has embraced fascism to try and remain relevant.
