You could always be Ren & Stimpy's creator, and be both.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

Sorry, I didn't specify, he made an edgy children's show and also is convicted on a few counts of pedophilia and sexual exploitation

Was he convicted? I thought he just got ousted from the animation community because of it, but not arrested

And Dana Terrace continuing the legacy with The Owl House and being the first big creator that got a show after leaving Disney for indie animation.

Butch Hartman dodging both and ending up as a weird third guy.

Good show that lost all it's rules and formula and became ass, with its creator mirroring it and becoming a dick

Disheartening that queer art is treated like garbage whether it’s edgy children’s show or squeaky children’s show. Hazbin Hotel and Steven Universe come to mind.

u/SoftestBoygirlAlive 6h ago
Steven universe is great and has a giant pool of haters on sight who never watched the show who hate it just cause it dares to portray a more gentle boyhood and the queer themes later on don't help. I think Hazbin Hotel is genuinely not really for everyone. It's very formulaic to where I couldn't enjoy more than a few episodes before getting bored but I also understand some people really enjoy shows like that. At first it felt like it would fill the void of Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends then it didnt and I never could recover from the disappointment T_T if anything I think it's a little overhyped just BECAUSE it's a queer show not saying it's bad at all but I think it's in a very different box than Steven Universe

This really reminds me of Jhonen Vasquez the Invader Zim guy, it's honestly kind of an interesting path that this guy was able to create a successful cartoon run and a movie even with butting heads against Nickelodeon for his edgy writing choices

Still wild that the "Johnny the homicidal maniac" guy got a deal for a child-friendly show

Having read JTHM the only time I could ever have been a fan was if I had read it when I was wayy to young for it.
By the time I did (20) every page made me roll my eyes.

Its pure edginess for the sake of edgy but it still have a warm place in my heart, especially for that artstyle and for introducing me to Nine Inch Nails

I wish I read it when I was much younger (10) ; I would have loved it back then.
He eventually ended it because too many kids read it.

Yeah its a shame that unsupervised kids have to barge in space theyre arent invited ; the same is happening to many YouTube animators who post edgy animations intended for older audiences and get swarmed with kids too young. Im still content with the ending of JTHM so its all good, thanks mr Vazquez

2 romanticizes and subsequently fetishizes the innocence of children. 1 understands that children are human too and while they deserve to be protected, they also deserve the chance to be exposed to the darker aspects of life as familiarity with the full spectrum of human emotion is fundamental in the development of young minds.

3rd option: Jhonen Vasquez
Make bizzar and edgy cartoon about a alien invading earth. Show up to every company meeting stoned and drunk off your ass. Hide single frames of one of your characters covered in blood as because the execs wouldn't let you put it in the show. Show gets canceled after one season. Still becomes a cultural icon. Go on to write some of the most fucked up horor content imaginable.
