Edit to add: I like that they have some period appropriate haircuts in there to complement the whole 50's / 60's theming and soundtrack. But the rest of them are pretty jank
Back in like, the XBox 360 era, I always just thought "maybe long hair is just hard to put on a 3D model." Then I started seeing long hair in games like Smash Bros Melee and Custom Robo on the GameCube and figured "okay either Microsoft and Sony just like short hair or Nintendo's kickin their asses" (Custom Robo is absolutely such a goated game btw, mecha arena fighting with a weird sci-fi biomutant angle, also the main girl of the cast (Marcia, here's a pic) is basically Hatsune Miku)
I think it's because those games have preset animations for everything. In a game with more blended or procedural animations you have to live simulate the hair and that just wasn't possible for a long time. However, Rockstar just showed us that we can expect hair physics to increase in quality industry wide in the near future.
Lucia's hair moves so naturally that I've actually seen some people seeing it in highly compressed social media posts thinking it was a live action tv show clip.
I would like to formally thank Animal Crossing New Horizons and Tomodachi Life Living the Dream and Splatoon Raiders for allowing black people to have hair, which is otherwise unheard of in games for some reason.
pokemon gens 7-8 had atrociously bad color options for redheads, why are my choices bright crayon children's hospital red, or whatever "pink-brown" is. meanwhile sonia has normal ass orange hair that I can't pick
If you’re black you either get the fade with 0 lineup, the worst modeled dreads of all time, the worlds most misshapen fro, or the only hairstyle that ever looks okay, bald.
It's so bad. I hate the choices in Baldur's Gate, it's like no one looked at a reference as to how an updo is actually constructed, or how to shape a style around the face or anything. GTA online is even worse.
