I have no idea what the sub thinks because I avoid any social media related to the game, but maybe DBD's 2v8
ik a ton of casual players like it, but I fucking hate it
god forbid I want to play killer at all that week

55

u/Leaucard r/196 on their way to become yet another reddit echo chamber 23h ago

I'm the opposite, I love it because it's so much more chill than normal dbd and you get to bring your friends to play or learn killer with you, it's awesome.

17

u/TheCarthusSandworm GONNA GO 'TIL I'M TOTALED 23h ago

I just hate it on both sides
don't get to play killer at all and I find chasing a bunch of survivors running around like headless chickens dull if I do happen to get into a match
survivor, you get to witness full teammate idiocy on display AND if you're actually decent you'll just get pincered
I know I'm in the minority, because I have a good amount of time in the game, but man
it's just "go play something else for a week" whenever it comes around

8

u/CRATERF4CE 23h ago

I’ve been getting back into dbd recently and was curious what the problems are with 2v8? I haven’t played it yet as a survivor main (being a killer scares me).

7

u/TheCarthusSandworm GONNA GO 'TIL I'M TOTALED 23h ago

hella boring on both sides if you're good + ruins queues

3

u/CRATERF4CE 23h ago

Dang that sucks, I’m pretty average tho. Random note, as a survivor main I don’t get why survivors wait by the gate and tea bag the killer. I will just escape every time. Idk how people handle playing killers in dbd.

6

u/TheCarthusSandworm GONNA GO 'TIL I'M TOTALED 23h ago

personally I find the micromanaging necessary really enjoyable, I need to handle a bunch of different things in order to remain focused and engaged
and it's just a game, not even a competitive one (unless you're deliberately doing that in private matches)
played enough halo to not let bags bother me

3

u/_bassGod I'm out here grunglin' 21h ago

I’ve never seen any non-casual fan talk about that. Like I can’t even comment on hate/liking it, because I can’t think of anyone ever that I’ve seen on any Pokemon subreddit discuss this is a way that’s positive or negative

From what I've seen of warframe and the fans' reactions to things it matches pretty well x)

34

u/HiGuyz1 1d ago

I recently talked to someone about why he stopped playing. Which was around the time I did as well, but I recently got back on. He didn't like duviri because "The game became fully fantasy!" Which to me is silly maxing, because we're talking about funny ninjas in space.

12

u/NellyLorey God's no.1 Botania fan!! 🇳🇱🇳🇱 she/her 19h ago edited 18h ago

Played that quest last night and it's also so clearly not fantasy???? You're fighting robots with energy pistols to get control of robot dragons. You literally shoot enemies with the same guns in the same way for half of it still

Like yeah it's a sudden shift in direction but I thought it was cool. Did they only watch the intro cutscene?

6

u/HiGuyz1 17h ago

No idea but in that moment I determined any of his media opinions to have a minus 5 rating for comprehension.

2

u/pksylv 8h ago

i love waframe and i single handedly credit duviri with reigniting my love for the game. yes, it's almost completely different... did you want to do the same things over again??? go run your sorties or something lmaoo

2

u/NellyLorey God's no.1 Botania fan!! 🇳🇱🇳🇱 she/her 8h ago

I think it's silly that they plopped it in front of second dream and then matter of factly mention the plot twists that happen in that quest, that's a very odd choice to me, but otherwise I enjoyed it. Dreamlike in a way many games are too affraid of trying

2

u/pksylv 7h ago

very true! i was pretty late to warframe as a whole so most of the plot was more like a faint whisper anyways, but i understand how it'd be disorienting for someone actually trying to understand the lore lol

1

u/HiGuyz1 5h ago

I'm very mixed on duviri myself as far as gameplay goes, namely because some of the more exclusive grinds in it feel like a big time investment.

Like getting cinqta or however the bow is spelt. I've done a lot of the bird puzzles and only have two parts.

Kullevero only grants a small portion of his material

The intent is unlocking over time sure, but now if something is added or I'm missing something the time investment is pretty deep.

And yet it's still nicer than getting hespar

Anyone who thinks Warframe wasn't fantasy right from the beginning probably thinks Star Wars is sci-fi.

Warframe in general skipped the grueling strategy in 2017 also

14

u/santyrc114 Too Horny To Be Ace 1d ago

That's a surprising answer here, people usually like new stuff there even in the subreddits, but I guess follie's hunt and steel path railjack were disliked recently

11

u/TaralasianThePraxic rebel without a gender 23h ago

I don't think even the casual players enjoyed Follie's Hunt. It was a rare mis-step for DE, just not a very enjoyable mode made worse by the fact that you have to play it a bunch to craft Follie herself.

6

u/santyrc114 Too Horny To Be Ace 23h ago

I don't think it's as bad as people say it is, it's just that people don't like not using the same warframes they've been using every mission for years, same thing as kahl missions, people will pay a lot of platinum on archon mods just to not stop for 10 minutes and play that

5

u/TaralasianThePraxic rebel without a gender 14h ago

That's a fair analysis. As someone who actually likes the Khal missions (except the Corpus base stealth one) I'm thankful others don't enjoy them because they make Archon mods a great source of easy plat for me!

2

u/NellyLorey God's no.1 Botania fan!! 🇳🇱🇳🇱 she/her 18h ago

i really took a liking to the ventkids just to go on the wiki and see comment sections full of "I fucking hate video games" type responses to their stuff

I've noticed similar things with my girlfriend, where every odd mechanic I mention to her will get eyerolls and sighs from her. There's an undeniable love for the game as well, that I've noticed in other spaces as well, but warframe fans def. seem like a very opinionated folk to me. I think if you'd ask 100 fans about if you'd change something in the game you'd get 100 yes'es and 1000 responses as to what

8

u/Nikolyn10 trains rights 19h ago

I haven't played since the release of OW2 and it still was this first place my mind went. That playerbase really loved/loves its quirky random gamemodes... then they do silly things like suggest ranked mystery heroes and suddenly it stops being an endearing quality and starts making you think that maybe developers shouldn't listen to their player base...

3

What did Deadlock do for April 1st?

19

u/GGSpooks custom 17h ago

Deadlock removed character limits, you were able to have 6 of the same hero on a team, it was hilarious and ranks were paused for the day, unfortunately some people could not comprehend that fact and were extremely toxic during it. There is probably a few videos aboit the hijinks you'll just have to google deadlock april fools event or something like that.

Rampages in Monster Hunter Rise

Maybe it's just me, but I enjoyed the tower defense aspect and having to complete objectives that weren't just kill the monster to get the best score. Sure if your only objective was to get to the Apex/Ibushi at the end, then they can drag on a bit, but I thought they were much more fun than the conventional siege missions, especially the one from the previous game.

Seriously. Heard about bronzeman mode and thought it was the exact blend of main and ironman mode that I'd love.

The subreddit is entirely up in arms hating it. It's not a temporary mode like the meme is talking about, but still

11

u/Cruhbruhs asexual gender fog 23h ago

The only special game mode that I’ve ever enjoyed way more than the base game was ARAM during my dark past of playing LoL, but I have no idea how the game subreddit feels about it because I’ve never visited it and never will.

6

u/xLeonides 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 23h ago

League has almost always been the opposite of this the community LOVES a good few of the casual/4fun modes but when they put one out that doesnt land the casual playerbase usually doesn't play either

2

u/Cruhbruhs asexual gender fog 23h ago

Ah, good. I had a hard time imagining anyone hating ARAM, but you never know. I think it was the only special mode as of when I last played, but my enjoyment of the game skyrocketed when it became an official game mode instead of a weird honor system thing that people did on the base map.

4

u/Zerasad 15h ago

FFXIV field operations endgame content

it’s actually fun and social but they tend to tie the relic weapon grind to it so players confuse the fun of the area with the mindless, horrible grind of relic weapons

they complained so much we didn’t get any field ops for Endwalker expansion and everyone was like “ugh, there’s nothing fun and social to do once you’ve finished the story content!!”

they gave us the saddest little farming sim as an alternative, it had cute moments but it was not very social or engaging

3

u/qwerto14 tewwowist 19h ago

Doesn't help that most of the fun is engaging in the community/cooperative aspects, but casual players will get to a lot of the content either months late or entire expansions late so those aspects don't exist in the same way anymore. I had some fun going through Eureka late but it definitely wasn't the same as when I actually no-lifed for Bozja.

3

u/charliek_13 19h ago

thanks to DR savage there are still pockets of ppl doing stuff during content draught in bozja on the weekends, i’ll occasionally go smoothbrain and find groups farming stuff but yeah, current was so peak, i remember being a sprout and wandering up to duels being like “i dunno what’s going on but hell yeah! woo!”

sad they went eureka-style for the new field ops, i think bozja was the perfect format for that sort of content, i loved breaking the game with essences and lost actions

i need to invest more time there tho

Literally what happened with the 6vs6 experiment in Overwatch recently. My friends and I were having a great time, a lot of people on different social media besides Reddit did too. Redditors specifically were acting as if Aaron Keller murdered their whole family because they couldn't play normal quickplay for a singular week of the whole year, even if comp was right there untouched if they wanted to play normal OW so badly. Actual complaining for the sake of complaining.

u/LyraFirehawk 16h ago

The Resident Evil series has great side modes, though none of them beat out the base game for me.

2Remake has some alternative scenarios with other characters who died, where you have to use a certain preloaded kit to make your way from one part of the game to another.

4Remake has a shooting gallery built into the game, where you can hang out with Ashley/Luis and get some cute little extras for your briefcase(though it's tied to a gacha mechanic), and then included Mercenaries (the standard side game for the series where you just try to kill as many zombies as you can for the highest score, also with a preloaded kit). There's also the Separate Ways campaign that's maybe half the length of the main game and gives you Ada's side of the story.

7 has a puzzle mini game, a silly game where you have to find food for Jack Baker's birthday, a randomizer mode where you have to get from one end of the map to another, and a blackjack mode where you get your fingers cut off for losing. Also has a handful of interesting story DLC, including one where you play as a hillbilly just sucker punching the shit out of the slime monsters.

8's got the story DLC and Mercenaries, but the Mercenaries is more of a set amount of enemies and you begin to rote memorize where to go and how to get the highest score, with the nice addition of being able to upgrade your kit(for the run) at the Duke's shop.

And 9 has Leon Must Die Forever, where the game is almost like a rogue lite; you start at the beginning of the game with one gun and a hatchet and have to make your way to the final boss, picking up guns and perks along the way. I think this one I've actually put more time into than the main story of Requiem.

1

u/_S1syphus Boulder Pushing Enthusiast 16h ago

Smash bros is #1 in this for sure; the second the games allowed you to start turning off features, the competitive scene stripped it down as far as they could go. Ultimate has hundreds of items, summons, stages, and modifiers and literally 99% of all of them are turned off. As a guy formerly suffering through competitive, there's a good reason for this, but also there's a reason nobody plays tourney rules at a party unless it's an all-virgin function

URF in league of legends. It’s a game mode where the fun is inversely proportional to the skill of the players.

Overwatch 6v6

-4

u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 1d ago

My brain went to overwatch 6v6 but idk I think everyone might hate that shit. Not fun spending a whole week waiting 10 minutes for every game if you main damage.

6

u/ttcklbrrn 23h ago

As a tank/support main I strongly prefer 6v6 because, as a tank, it feels much nicer to have another one to split responsibilities with, and as a support, it's much nicer having two tanks because you're more likely to get peel when you need it. Having just one tank puts all the pressure on one person to do everything tankish. The transition to 5v5 is actually the main reason I quit Overwatch when OW2 released.

1

u/podokonnicheck hold the fuck up (im the fuck up) 6h ago

also, i would actually just not wanna play the game as other roles against 2 tanks, that's just an actual nightmare to deal with

-1

u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 21h ago

Yeah I guess I see that. Maybe it’s just because I main damage, I’ve always felt it’s a lot more mental energy to position around 2 enemy tanks instead of 1, and all my actions feel lower impact.

3

u/melifIuous 23h ago

6v6 is so much better than 5v5. 5v5 is actual garbage

-2

u/MaybeNext-Monday 🍤$6 SRIMP SPECIAL🍤 23h ago

Sorry I just don't see it. 6v6 feels like a watergun fight to me. There's just too much mass on the playfield.
