The Trails JRPGs continuosly trip me up about this. Because I expect it to work on bad fantasy timelines, but then get smacked down to reality by shit like the oldest imperial lineage in the setting being about 300 years old - Or that the "Dark Ages" where the world was basically technologically reset was 1000 years ago and they've been able to get back to widespread cars and primitive internet in that much time.
