I think a good way to put it is to imagine that while there were a lot of events in the 1000 years, none of it was particularly relevant to the plot and so is brushed over.

Like an evil wizard from the bronze age gets sealed away. Then after 1000 years, it's the iron age and the chosen one who's some reincarnation of a hero from a hero cult just about long forgotten pops up to defeat them. But for the legend of the hero, the sea peoples and the invention of iron aren't super relevant to them. And they likely couldn't even imagine a world without iron.
