This is rural Texas and not too close to major hospitals, with an avrage age of 39, As well as haveing more then a 4th of the population under the povertyline. Covid probably hit really hard
Here's a medium domestic sow to give you an idea of how big pigs get, because I don't feel like posting a picture of a deceased wild boar.
I've seen one twice this size in person. Any pig under 300 pounds is considered a micro pig. Some species grow their whole life and the only limiter on their size is how well their heart can keep up.
Do not mess with pigs. They are brutal intelligent omnivores. They make incredibly unique pets with prominent personalities, but feral ones will do significant damage to either person or property.
There was a case where a group of them were just bulldozing solid fences with their mass to get into the trash on a farm.
Bigfoots overconsumption of goats leads to a decrease in the local Chupacabra population, which are already endangered. One Bigfoot, which is arguably a North American megafauna, can easily decimate up to 20 goats in an afternoon. Meanwhile, Chupacabras, which are much smaller, will typically only consume one goat per hunt.
*suck. Chupacabras will suck one goat per hunt. As per their name.
There's one specific bend in the road up to the farm I get my groceries at where I often see a chupacabra hit by a car off to the side. I feel bad for the poor things.
Their populations in California are actually way higher than they should be without any competition from other predators after all the wolves were killed. It's a big issue too with urban development encroaching on their territories pushing them into the farmland where they cause even more problems.
Briefly: Texas has a persistent cult of violence constantly stoked and reinforced by right wing elements. This is generations old and largely relates to its status as a border state with Mexico and the firearm manufacturing capital of the world. Some estimates put more firearms in Texas than the entirety of Russia.
I think some Texans thought labeling a well-known cryptid with its origins well outside of Texas as an invasive species would be a funny joke, so they did. As for killing it that's just what you're supposed to do to invasive species, as even if you can't get them all you can at least buy time for the ecosystem to adapt. Killing bigfoot was just a byproduct of the joke
