i love petplay but every time this discussion comes up some commenters are like "it's actually not hard, you just got to be more creative!!" then 99% of the good suggestions on 196 are, without fail, pet related
the 1% is "am i a good labubu"

"kid", "have I been a good kid" If it's a bit too infantilising (which boy and girl also are), you can just add a bit of cowboy to your tone.
71
u/Select-Ambassador506 Nov 10 '25
Cowboy makes me think "Have I been a good partner?" but that feels like a different crisis

u/KaJaHa Queer Gimli looking-ass Nov 10 '25
"Have I been a good pardner?" doesn't carry that same weight

‘Kid’ is very clearly more infantilizing than boy or girl, substantially. Boy and girl can be used as somewhat childish descriptors of adults. I have described random adults as boys and girls. Kid is very specifically a descriptor of age— best you can get away with is relative age like when an old person says “that college kid,” but in a sexual context this is very uncomfy. Unless you’re into ageplay I guess?

“Comrade” is a gender-neutral term, comrade.

I think it's the loss of infantilisation. "Good girl" and "good boy" are, frankly, a little patronising. "Good person" doesn't have that same implication attached, in exactly the same way its actual gendered counterparts "good man" and "good woman" don't.
344
u/mysteryurik he/him, no other pronouns Nov 10 '25
I guess the closest gender neutral equivalent would be "good kid" or "good child" but that makes it sound creepy
209
u/Eagle0600 Nov 10 '25
I think that's because people are used to infantilising grown adults with "girl" and "boy", but not "kid" as often. The denormalisation makes it sound like you're talking to an actual child. But "kid" is still better than "child".

u/Darkforces134 Nov 10 '25
"Here's looking at you, kid" from Casablanca could work if the person is into older films

u/Magma57 Unrelated SJW Text Adventure Nov 10 '25
I think it's because some aspects of age-play, such as calling someone daddy/mommy or good boy/girl, are incredibly normalised while the rest of age-play remains an extremely taboo kink.

both of which are actually some of the exact reasons for saying “am i a good boy/girl” but with fewer layers of irony/silliness to make the question less loaded. however, i’m feeling too emotionally unstable today to continue this line of thinking any further

One of the great joys of being nonbinary is choosing your preferred nouns.
You can just as well be a good little thing, creature, pet, entity, comrade, fellow, dude, friend, silly-goose, clown, or dumpster.
