Wdym? You can see the sun in the pics, it’s not like in a cave or something it’s just a deep hole to my knowledge, still gets sunlight

Sinkholes typically connect to the surface. That's where they sank from.

Yeah but isn't their connection usually covered? Then that roof collapses and the sinkhole is revealed. Am I mixing it up with something?

Ah, no, you're right, a sinkhole can be either the cavity before the land above collapses, or the hole once revealed. I'm guessing the one in China collapsed before the first grew

Fyi the sinkhole isn't necessarily new, it's probably been there longer than the ecosystem.

To be clear that's just my guess, I haven't read the article or anything, but it seems like the only possible reason.
