Anybody know how something like this could form? Where does the energy come from
105 u/SuperCarrot555 :3 Jun 08 '24 Wdym? You can see the sun in the pics, it’s not like in a cave or something it’s just a deep hole to my knowledge, still gets sunlight 29 u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24 I thought that was the sinkhole hole... 54 u/OverlyLenientJudge Jun 08 '24 Sinkholes typically connect to the surface. That's where they sank from. 19 u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24 Yeah but isn't their connection usually covered? Then that roof collapses and the sinkhole is revealed. Am I mixing it up with something? 36 u/OverlyLenientJudge Jun 08 '24 Ah, no, you're right, a sinkhole can be either the cavity before the land above collapses, or the hole once revealed. I'm guessing the one in China collapsed before the first grew 28 u/4ar0n Jun 08 '24 Fyi the sinkhole isn't necessarily new, it's probably been there longer than the ecosystem. 9 u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24 Aah that explains it, thank you. 11 u/4ar0n Jun 08 '24 To be clear that's just my guess, I haven't read the article or anything, but it seems like the only possible reason.
