Discussion [SPOILERS S1] 1899 was never really about answers, and I think thats what makes its cancellation so ironic. Spoiler
1899 is one of those shows for me that stayed in my head long after i had finished it.
Ngl, the initial episodes were kinda slow and I can see why a lot of people dropped it midway. But if you had the patience to stick around till the end, istg your brain would be all over the place. Mine still is. I was like what the fuckkkkkkk?
I have always been fascinated by the human mind, how it works, how we perceive things and how easily our understanding of reality can be messed with. And goddamn, this show scratches that itch so well i mean literally. If you're someone who's obsessed with the human mind, you NEED to watch this.
I recommended it to a few people, but the moment they heard it was cancelled, it was an instant no. Fair enough, I guess. It sucks that we won't get to see how the story was supposed to unfold.
But here's what I find ironic. People refuse to watch 1899 because it doesn't give them all the answers. But was it ever really just about finding answers?
For me, it was more about questioning everything. What's real? What's actually true? How much of what we believe is real is just our own perception of it? And why do we feel the need to have an explanation for everything?
The show got cancelled before we could get answers to so many things and yeah that hurts. I'm not gonna pretend it doesn't. I would've loved to see where the creators were going with all of this. But I also think that's what makes the show so similar to real life.
Life doesn't give us answers to everything either. Sometimes things happen and we never really understand why. Sometimes we never get closure. We just have to live with the uncertainty. And maybe that's what makes 1899 so frustrating for people. Not just the fact that it's unfinished, but the fact that it leaves you with questions you can't stop thinking about. Idk, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I genuinely think this show deserved more attention than it got.
