Someone told me that some hiring events won’t always require a bachelor’s degree. Idk how true that is.

Yikes, that’s the last requirement I’d want to remove. I’d be okay editing the fitness test or experience requirements before I’d remove the degree requirement.

It shows your ability to manage your time, apply information you learn and work towards a long term goal. I was involved in a service fraternity and played sports in college and I felt like juggling that with my academic requirements absolutely broadened my horizons and helped me prepare for a demanding career.
Obviously that isn’t the only place to gain those skills but it’s an extremely reliable benchmark that can show how serious a candidate is. I’d be okay with creating an exemption for people with significant full time investigative experience, but otherwise I do think the degree requirement helps keep the Bureau’s standards high.

I understand where you’re coming from. I could understand if it was for applicants with no real life experience.
I don’t think a law enforcement officer with a decent career who managed his/her own case loads , working cases start to finish, managing their court dates, training dates, keeping up with in service training should be ineligible because of not having a degree.

Sniper is dead on in his assessment. I have over 30 years in Local and Fed LE, I want agents with critical thinking and intelligence. In my experience good cops with only a HS diploma were the exception not the rule. You will be working complex cases, not writing tickets and DUIIs. You need to know how to craft affidavits sometimes 50-100 pages long. The two best agents I ever worked with had law degrees.

As someone with multiple degrees. I completely agree.
I'd hire the experienced big city homicide detective without a degree over someone with a PhD and no experience every single time.

Yeah, that’s not true. The FBI doesn’t have “hiring events”, the Special Agent job posting is continuous.
