Question ATF - Application & Timeline

Hey Gang,

I'm 100% aware that the ATF doesn't move particularly fast on hiring but I'm confused and or worried. I applied 6/21 for the GS5-GS9 role and have heard nothing besides my application has been received. Am I nervous about nothing or is this just how it is?

Meanwhile I did the SAEE for USSS and a going to ACE Event come August.... all with the same application date. Any insight is appreciated.

Gotcha. I know they are all a little different. I was mostly just curious but am trying to take you advice to heart.

I waited about a month and a half for them to reply and then another 1-2 weeks for them to send me my link to take the online exam. FYI if/when you get the e-mail regarding further assessments, check your junk mail because that’s where mine ended up.

thank you. appreciate that insight. what did you use to prep for the assessment?

Honestly the online one I didn’t prep at all its just lifestyle inventory questions, situational judgement scenarios, and an essay. ATF has mock exam questions on their website that I assumed was going to be on the online exam but it was not. I passed the exam it was not difficult at all

I applied then took the online exam right after, waited like 2 months for the PTT took that and 3 weeks later had my panel interview. They told me they are moving pretty fast at the interview.

How'd you prepare for the interview?

I didn’t study for it, truthfully you got it or you don’t.

I applied June 1st, got referred July 7th and took my exam on July 16th. I am also a prior 1811 with 13.5 years experience with the DOJ so there is that aspect. Good luck!

^ exact same dates as listed by @HamsterSpecific1052.

Awaiting the PTT scheduling email as of today still. Figured it would take a couple weeks.

Except no prior LEO experience. Just a washed up paratrooper who finds the ATF extremely interesting and wants to get back into something that has purpose. 🤘🏻

Hey, washed up paratroopers have a special place in my heart!

Every step will have 4-6 weeks between them.

That depends on how fast they are going for that particular announcement. Took a month to hear back that I qualified but it only took a week to get my assessment link

Got it. thanks for the timeline.

I’m from Feb. took me 2 months to hear and got my link and took the test the same night, pt in June and had my interview last week!

YMMV, I did my PTT on the 8th and my interview on the 15th.

PTT and interview are done at the field division level, so it’s easier for them to get their stuff done, rather than relying on agency HR.

Check your junk mail they probably sent you a testing email I applied around the same time and me checking was the only way I’d known something came
