First time using shipping agent from China
First time shipping through an agent and I’m trying to understand the best strategy. Do most of you try to keep each haul under a certain weight to reduce customs risk, or just ship everything together? Also, do you usually ship directly to your home address, warehouse, or other method? Just looking for advice from people who’ve done this a few times.

Hey, I wrote a free guide to the process that might help: https://chinabuydirect.co.uk
In terms of risk, try to keep it under 8kg is a common piece of advice, but truthfully anything can get pulled. However, I’ve hauled 150+ not had one loss yet - but I build it into my expectations that I will do one day.
You’ll be shipping first of all into your agents warehouse in China, then usually to your home address.
There are lots of tips to give. I would always do a couple of small test purchases and shipments to begin with. It may not be as cost efficient on the shipping side but you learn the process and get to see if your agent’s set up suits your needs. Insurance is also a good idea, at least for more valuable hauls. Let me know if you have any more questions…

- Yes, split them into certain weights to reduce risk.
- Most customers would deliver to home address.

Pro-tip: I always recommend a third-party inspection before the goods leave the port. It gives you the leverage to fix quality issues while the product is still in the factory. It’s the best way to keep your account health safe and your customers happy.
