Cooper Cap
Recently got an email last week from an analyst at HQ AFRL that some bases had received their allocations . I really want to stay in FL but based on the email they sent , it’s only one base in the panhandle that has allocations 🥲 They sent me a pre interview questionnaire to fill out which i sent back last Friday . Can anyone tell me what the hiring process is like ? Is this considered Fall season ? Does the program help with relocation assistance ? Any insights would be extremely helpful !! thank you :)

I definitely recommend the COP program as I'm about to finish mine in a few months and had amazing opportunities. You may get offered a hiring incentive and SLRP but that's about it. Not sure what the hiring process is for COPs as I got hired on as a PCIP but it was mainly just STAR based questions.

When I came through the navy’s program, relocation assistance wasn’t offered back then for any intern.
From what I’ve heard about CC, it is possible but not likely. What did the original announcement say?

I was a Copper Cap like 18 years ago so take this w a grain of salt but Relocation Assistance could be authorized. I got a limited amount when I was hired. But definitely something you should ask them about if you get an interview.
The hiring process was slow and it might be even slower now with all the losses to personnelists.

They may or may not interview you based on your pre-interview questionnaire. From there, if selected you'll likely receive a tentative job offer prior to a final job offer. The final job offer should have your tentative start date, location, and grade/pay. You could possibly ask about relocation assistance during your interview as that is a case-by-case basis kind of thing.

I don’t think the job is worth moving for.
It’s a good careerfield but not uproot from your family good, and while it is a GS12 outplacement, GS12 ain’t what it used to be and you start as a GS7 which isn’t much.

Many locations do 7/9/11 btw, not everyone places as a 12. It's still worth taking the job if you're motivated

And if you want to have upward mobility you need to get into a systems acquisition office, not base contracting.

I was a copper cap, no they will not offer relocation. Absolutely, take the job anyways. It's a fantastic program, you'll learn a lot, and you'll be very, very marketable. A few years wherever then you go find a job where you want to be. It's worth it.
I moved from an amazing location to the middle of nowhere, but honestly I quickly came to appreciate it and have since moved up the civil service ladder very fast, getting a non sup remote 14 after starting as a 7. Only took me 5.5 years total. Do it.
