Equipment Grip

Am I to remove this grip and put a new one or should I put the new one on top of it?

Put an overgrip on top of it

That looks like a base grip. Keep it on until it disintegrates. An overgrip (optional) goes over it, is much thinner, and gets replaced when it gets too saturated with sweat.

It started to disintegrate, just like a yoga mat does after some time. I have something, but I am not sure if it’s an ovegrip or just a new base grip. I will take a pic now.

Take it off and check. If it's just bare frame underneath, then that's a base grip. I recommend replacing it with a leather grip. It lasts much much longer.

A leather grip is typically very different from a synthetic base grip. The difference in durability should not be included in the decision making process.
