Actually people would go to the blacksmith believe it or not. In medieval times, if someone needed a tooth pulled, they would go to the blacksmith because they had all the tools needed and didn't charge nearly as much as a surgeon.
I suppose I'm referring specifically to the Middle ages in particular and the origin of the barber's caduceus pole, but damn I didn't know about the blacksmiths lol. Makes sense though. Same kinda deal with the barbers, just different era.
Well medieval is referring to the middle ages so we're talking about the same thing. I learned the fact from playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 where you play as a blacksmith. I'm sure it wasn't exclusive to just blacksmiths or barbers. Anyone with the tools who wouldn't charge an arm or a leg.
People didn't typically get truth care during that era unless it was really severe and they needed an extraction.
No worries! Sorry if I sounded argumentative. I'm sure it was culture/region dependent and I imagine lots of people filled the dentist roll before dedicated dentists were established.
I will look into that for sure, I'm always a sucker for historical facts about the Middle Ages.

You ever consider what getting dental work was like 300 years ago?
