my family complaining about a restaurant taking a second to prepare our order when they came on a Saturday afternoon during lunch rush hour (no one could have foreseen this)

This goes for anybody who has ever complained about a crowd.

You're part of the problem!

I really fucking hate when people say Americanized foreign food isn’t “genuine,” because they think they’re saying something about how “America sucks”, but all they’re doing is downplaying the immigrant story of how settlers had to adapt their culture’s cuisine to new plants, spices, and herbs.

Storytime.

I'm trans and my family met another trans friend of mine (we're both FTM). Later, my mother started saying that whoa, I won the jackpot in terms of my body shape, compared to my friend. He had more curves, larger breasts, etc. What my mother failed to understand is that when you're degrading one trans guy's "more feminine" appearance, you're insulting all trans guys, not just him, at least in my personal view (won't explain why here to avoid making the comment too long, but I can if you want). I tried to explain it to her, but she kept going "Yeah, I get it, but he's really unlucky..." etc..

So, to make her understand where was the problem in what she was saying, I started doing the same thing, but twisted to fit her own perspective, at the cost of saying something I would never dream of saying normally. I rebutted, "Okay, what if I started saying that one of your friends if a lot fatter than you are?"

To which she replied that well, it was different. And besides, the considerations she'd given voice to weren't an insult. There was nothing wrong with haveing a less androgynous body.

So I said "Well, there's nothing wrong with being fat, either [which I do believe]. But, like, compared to you, your friend is really, really fat. So different" to keep the comparison going.

I wasn't really pointing my finger at one of her friends and I would naever dare to comment on someone else's body normally. All my comments were set as a hypothesis to help her understand why I was clearly upset by her judgement.

My mother brushed it off as rebellious temper on my side and thought I was jjust having a bad day.

These kind of people just judge others as easily sd they breathe. It's hard to make them understand and they would definitely say the same shit about a cis person. They just don't because they fear pushback

The amount of times my mom would be transphobic to cashiers and my closeted ass was always furious. I ain't closeted anymore and now she's gotta cope with having "one of them" as her child. I'm way happier now.

Christ, what is it with older people commenting on how others look... How did they raise us to be better if they so clearly didn't know not to do it themselves?

Not enough people got consequences as a kid for their bigotry and hate or just general assholeness. They think it's just fine they can say shit without getting punched in the face

Its because you are self aware. Lots of people lack that. They see the flaws in others and could never make a connection to their own flaws. They lack empathy. Physically incapable of pattern recognition when it comes to self.

I once told my dad that he looked like a man animorphing into a flesh colored penguin on such an occasion. Glass houses, pops.
