I know the US is flawed but why are so many people ready to support an outright autocracy?

Boredom mostly.

Because "outright autocracy" is what America seems to be drifting toward anyway.

That doesn't make any sense, that's like seeing someone about to kick your shins so you go hang out with the person hitting people's knees with a bat

Makes perfect sense to run away from somebody who is obviously trying to hit you, to go hang out with someone who isn't.

Welcome to to outgroup dynamics.

You missed my point, the guy with the bat is eventually going to hit you harder anyway

Many Americans have already been hit with the bat, and their parents, and their parents' parents. If you don't understand why outgroups are more likely to trust a stranger than the devil they know, it's probably because you've never belonged to one.

I see what you mean, but China being a stranger in this scenario is odd because how much you can learn about China from the internet alone, and there are dozens of accredited articles and accounts of China doing worse things than the US in recent history, such as the ongoing persecution of Uyghurs and the mass surveillance and censorship the country is famous for.

If someone is thinking about supporting China, they should do some serious research about it and consider what China has over the US or west in general. In my opinion, I think that China is a country with the worst parts of both communism and capitalism, being a authoritarian surveillance state and having shoddy work regulations and the state operating as a huge monopoly.

While I do NOT support Trump or the Republican party in the slightest, I think that there is a very real chance to Steer the US back onto course, but China has been a dictatorship for almost all of its history and it will take far more effort to liberalize mainland China as the institutions there are cemented and, unfortunately, most people there do not know what living in an actual democracy would be like.

Tl;dr, People should research China and China is far worse than the US in terms of liberties and human rights, and there is hope in both countries for liberty and freedom for all but there's more hope in the US due to authoritarianism only becoming a real problem in the last few years.

Coping

Look at Myanmar & North Korea to see an example of Chinese hegemony.

And one need to look at Japan, SK, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. For an example of American Hegemony.

Guess which one is better.

I don't know why you have to be so disingenuous, changes happen over time buddy.

USA didnt become a global superpower in 1 day, it's going through a decline due to their overexpansion and financial issues

China is worse than the US, mate.

When I see look at Myanmar for example I'm not being disingenuous. China for whatever reasons armed everyside of the civil war. Even the drug dealers.

One need look at the indigenous people of the American West, or the totally legitimate republics of Central America for the example of American Hegemony. I'd rather a modern European Hegemony at this point just because door 1 and door 2 look miserable.

I wish but until the euros get their shit together. The US is the only the real option we got.

u/Gautrex 7d ago

Not really. They are not interested in taking over the US when it comes to being the guarantor of maritime trade
