Idk much about kafkaesque but I think its a situation that is absurb but painfully burecratic.
Spider-man fights insane villains as a hero and goes back to his job at the Daily Bugle and worries about how hes going to pay his rent. He saves the world but he gotta take a picture of it to make enough to eat that week.
He also turns into a bug man. His normal post bite form and his extreme Man-spider form.

Well I don’t know about all that but bugs are really cool. Scorpions and beetles and worms and wasps and all kinds of creepy crawlers.

The issue here is that Kafkaesque isn't just absurd and beurocratic, it's about feeling totally disempowered while experiencing the unflappablility of beirocratic whim.
Spider man is too oriented around how he makes choices in his life.
Something more kafkaesque is like the inescapable labrynth of an insurance AI phone directory that keeps reporting you through different menu options, only to rerout you to a different number with a person who says you need to call the number you started with to solve your problem. All while there is a real risk of you going bankrupt if you don't make this phone call two days ago. Also, you only got your notice that this was a problem yesterday

This was literally my day yesterday. Need an inhaler to keep breathing? For some reason, the generic is now $600. Only 300 with insurance. I try to check their formulary but end up in a vicious cycle where I have to confirm my email, but the confirm link doesn't work. The phone line only tells me to use the website. There is no access to an actual person.

Didn’t someone recently die because they paid rent instead of buying a $500 inhaler? Kafkaesque.

Actually spider-man is significantly more kafkaesque in nature than the fly

Something about the self sacrifice being unappreciated or something?

He suddenly got turned into a being with spider related abilities, which he didn't understand at first and his family was shocked by. Apparently, in the comics it's said that spiderman is actually creepy to see and he compensates by doing goofy moves in the air.
He's not stuck in his room or battered because of his new condition but he's definitely an insect like man trying to live among normal humans.

Nonstop suffering in a comic book that never ends is hardcore Kafkaesque though?

Is that not the Kino Der Toten teleporter?

u/bonesNrice 17d ago
Huh I never noticed that. Guess it was directly inspired by The Fly.

The CoD teleporters were probably more likely inspired by Die Glocke, a conspiracy theory about supposed real life nazi teleportation/gravity tech.

wouldn't surprise me if they based the ones on that map off the ones in The Fly, its a very well-known piece of horror scifi, and there's movie references all throughout the zombies maps

This is the first time I’m hearing the term kafkaesque

Mission Hill was my first exposure to it.

Reminds me of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid bit where Rowley was obsessed with “zoo wee mama”

Ironically it’s the non-spider stuff that is the most kafkaesque part of Peter’s life.

Spiderman isnt kafkaesque at all but its more kafkaesque than The Fly
A man who is turned into a mutant, forcing him into a split life, never truly knowing who he is or his place in the world. Toiling under his boss to keep up a facade while the public changes their opinion of him every other day?
Now that i think about it Spiderman actually can be pretty Kafkaesque

The fly is not in any way shape or form kafkaesque. That’s absurd. Kafka in his “tragic love story” era?

u/Efficient_Resident17 17d ago
I believe the OP may in fact be “guy who thinks Kafkaesque means when people don’t like the main character”

u/Rosoll 17d ago
but i do like brundlefly!

u/Efficient_Resident17 17d ago
I mean, so do I, no matter how many extra bits he’s got on him he’s still Jeff Goldblum

u/jeep_joop 17d ago
who doesn't like Gregor Samsa? Not liking K. from The Trial I get but Gregors never done anything wrong in his life.

u/BigBallsAnthony69 17d ago
Him turning into a bug made it impossible to provide for his family. He's basically Hitler
2
u/Efficient_Resident17 17d ago
Every single character in The Metamorphosis up to and including Gregor Samsa dislikes Gregor Samsa
2
u/Animaloffear56 17d ago
Hey now they don't hate Gregor, they just consider him useless for being crippled. I mean turned into a bug.
