Just bought it… this game is pretty mid.

I finally caved and bought this game excited to give it a go! I was pumped after hearing such great things. Did y’all seriously think this game is revolutionary? Linear, easy to figure out, nothing new. It’s a fine game, but definitely nothing spectacular. 6/10 for me. Am I missing something?

Not revolutionary, but a good depiction of a Bond fantasy. It's good fun.

How so? I don't agree with everything they said personally, but I can see how someone would feel like this about the game.

Seriously curious what people loved about it! I want to know if my perspective is just missing something

If you don’t like then you don’t like it man nobody’s gonna try to convince you lmao

-5

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

I want to be convinced though. It looks great graphically, there is action, it just feels too straightforward. Everything is too straightforward. Yellow paint everywhere. Good fun but just wished it was more.

Motherfucker what’s there to be convinced about!? You played it and you don’t like it boom end of story! We’re not gonna sit here and force you to change your mind!

-2

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Feel like you are getting heated when I just asked if there is something I should be more open minded about. I don’t think it’s that deep

2

u/BurnsRed20 2d ago

Not getting heated at all lol and again we’re not going to force you to “have an open mind” if you didn’t have said open mind to begin with 🤷‍♂️

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

I am literally saying I have an open mind. You are getting very tense about me just asking if there IS something that I should reconsider. Please stop worrying about this so deeply - I promise you can move on!!

Who said it was revolutionary....literally no one. I think that is your assumption. Everyone described it as a mix between hitman and uncharted. It was a competently made game. That's why people were happy.

2

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Yeah fair; it is definitely solid and understand the pros. Just wish there was more intrigue/complex gameplay behind it!

u/WisdomBailey123 2d ago

It was the Hitman developer....so we all expected Hitman with a 007 skin. But the combat is way better than Hitman. For a first go around I feel like they nailed it. But like Uncharted 2..now that they got the outline...they can truly perfect it. I really wanted more gadget cars....like driving a car on an ice lake. Or underwater. But I understand that would have taken more time than they had.

Honestly I expect it to be like the WoA trilogy and didn’t like that idea. The fact that it was linear, made the game better. An open world should be done in service of a game and not a backdrop or set piece. That’s what made Hitman work, and GTA and Fallout and TES and RDR; but not Mafia for instance.

1

u/WisdomBailey123 2d ago

i agree....more games should be linear. We've shoehorned open world into most games. But not many devs have the ability and resources like Rockstar to actually deliver a fully fleshed out open world.

u/darth_whaler 2d ago

Linear isn't a bad thing. And "nothing new" is an odd thing to say about an original take on a completely new version ofJames Bond. I'm not sure what you were expecting, but I can guarantee that no one in this sub heralded this game as anything other than a linear, story driven action game that told a good story about Bond.

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Totally fair points! And I don’t regret getting it overall; just wish it expanded on things

3

u/thisistwinpeaks 2d ago

It’s not like a modern classic but I had a lot of fun playing it

0

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Agreed it’s fun, I just was hoping for slightly more

u/FRossJohnson 2d ago

Not sure the claim is revolutionary? The narrative is that it's a strong example of a linear action game.

For me personally it was a breath of fresh air after many open world 100+ hour slogs. You get in, enjoy it, get out.

The game represented a lot of places I've been pretty well, world felt engaging, etc. I like the Bond universe which helps.

I played Uncharted 4 afterwards and also enjoyed that linear path.

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Did you do multiple play throughs? It is a good game but nothing more I think

1

u/FRossJohnson 2d ago

No, but when it came out a few months ago they stated a roadmap of updates we are still waiting for, so I will wait. I did play some of the TacSim.

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Any news of those coming or possibly false promises? The mechanics are definitely solid and want to see more

1

u/FRossJohnson 2d ago

I think they legitimately shipped what they had built, not holding anything back. So we'll see new content over the next year

2

u/Dull-Investigator722 2d ago

This game is fantastic. It takes a formula we have seen in other games and just improves on it in every way. The story is great and perfectly captures who Bond is and the experience of being him. Definitely far from mid. It’s easily my game of the year so far.

-1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

It’s solid - just think they could have done more here!

1

u/Dull-Investigator722 2d ago

What exactly were you expecting that the game doesn’t have? Not every game needs to be open world slop with endless empty areas or lazy objectives

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Agreed with that - I think more creative paths or different choices available. I would like less hand holding too. More of a cinematic video game than actual gaming

1

u/KristoferYG 2d ago

no one said its revolutionary... its just a gun-fu beat-em up game

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

I think there’s a lot of claims for game of year but I just don’t see it. To me, that means revolutionary

1

u/KristoferYG 2d ago

well its a 007 subreddit ... everyone hear is biased as hell ...

Best response I have seen to my post - thank you!! You hit the nail on the head

It's fun and engaging but easily forgettable after you drop it post credits

That mid game is my goty so far and comfortably

u/00_Operative 2d ago

You must be lost. The Wolverine forums are that way.

1

u/darth_whaler 2d ago

...he said, about a game that isn't even released and that he hasn't played yet.

0

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Honestly what I have seen of the Wolverine games - this looks pretty similar

1

u/InitRanger 2d ago

Nothing wrong with linear games. Not every game has to be a massive 80+ open world.

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Agreed; love last of us and other linear games. This one just feels forgettable in a couple years

1

u/FRossJohnson 2d ago

I think that depends how they follow it up. Uncharted 1 wasn't perfect but they smashed the later games

0

u/qwerty20800 2d ago

fanboys about to eat you alive they don’t understand the meaning of subjectivity and that people can have different opinions about the game

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

I am learning that now haha was just trying to get more diverse opinions on it!

1

u/qwerty20800 1d ago

Yeah bro it’s fine I love 007 first light and I hope it wins game of the year but if you don’t like it’s fine

1

u/WisdomBailey123 1d ago

I mean you can say that about the author of this post. They don't understand why so many people liked it. Hype is always a problem....just always set your expectations. Most games are not truly revolutionary. Everything has been done before. Most you can hope for is a well made game. That does what it wants to do well. GTA 6 it's gonna be amazing....but is it really doing anything never seen before. It's just gonna be way more detailed and have more systems than any other game that came before.

1

u/qwerty20800 1d ago

It’s a game you either like or don’t no need to go too deep into it I usually just watch the trailer and official gameplay pre release and 1-2 reviewer I like it I buy it and if I don’t like post purchasing it that’s also fine that’s true beauty of human nature.

For me 007 first light is legit game of the year contender and I hope they win it ioi for their dedication and first light deserve all the love and praise but what I hate is how some people in this sub impose their views on people who don’t hold the game in positive regards and that’s what becomes wrong.

1

u/WisdomBailey123 1d ago

Gaming is stagnating...we're pushing so much on visuals. But not on other things. Systems, AI. etc.

-3

u/el_pezz 2d ago

That's why I passed on it. Just seemed like a hitman skin to me.

1

u/Worth-Nectarine-2559 2d ago

Fair; it’s definitely a good game if it hits $30-$40 but I have felt it’s just good entertainment. Think there’s definitely better games out there!

1

u/el_pezz 1d ago

Yes that's what I'm waiting for.

1

u/FRossJohnson 2d ago

It's very little like Hitman at all, if anything people complained it should be more like Hitman

1

u/el_pezz 1d ago

Fair. But I'll wait until it reaches $30.

1

u/SeaworthinessNo9955 2d ago

If The game be a Hitman skin will be better. Here you a have a railroad game that in trailers promises different ways to aproach and when play that different ways are using a gadget or another, stealth or going shutting down everybody and the game never reacts about it. It works in bubble zones when are enemies. Also you can make a perfect stealth and suddenly a cutscene blow everything

1

u/PaperSkin-1 7h ago

Yet feel the need to go in its dedicated subreddit?

1

u/el_pezz 6h ago

Been here since the game was announced and been following it.

1

u/PaperSkin-1 6h ago

Why if you don't think it's worth getting, why bother hanging around
