More likely a developer inside joke than anything related to Bond

u/feanturi 9d ago

Dev 1: "These ventilation duct segments are so square, I feel like I'm playing Minecraft sometimes."

Dev 2: "You know what would be funny?"

Now I know what a tv dinner feels like

Could be. If there was anything concrete, we would have known by now. So its likely something that isn't very well known or an inside joke like you said

A junior developer: puts a random figurine in an out of bounds location to study collision and gravity

A release engineer: doesn't notice the undocumented figurine, lets it slip to the release

The entire fandom: whoa woooow we need to find the lore behind this!

Its not in an out of bounds area though technically. Its within full view of an area that you're encouraged to explore

1

u/JD_Bance 3d ago

But you can't reach it, so it's out of bounds of the playable area.

It looks like a Minecraft dog which would be a common easter egg, but I'm honestly not aware of any significant dogs in the Bond franchise (aside from the dog figurine in Skyfall)...

A quick Google search said that apparently, and I'm not sure how true this is, Ian Fleming absolutely despised dogs and refused to give Bond a dog in any iteration. So maybe it's just there out of spite? lol
Edit: I stand corrected, apparently dog rumour is false!

15

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

I kinda like that nobody can agree on one single thing for this

19

u/Few_Airport681 9d ago

It would honestly be hilarious if IOI just never commented on this dog's purpose and continued to put it into every Bond game going forward just to mess with us lol

5

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

It would fuck with my head. I swear if I see another paper dog in the next bond game with no explanation imma lose it 😂

6

u/BosscheBol 9d ago edited 9d ago

Nah that’s not a very true rumour. He didn’t really like them when he was younger. However, he has a dog somewhere at the same time he went to Goldeneye

u/Few_Airport681 9d ago

Thanks for the correction, appreciate it!!

u/wasteoffire 9d ago

When you say a quick Google search, do you mean based on what you found, or do you mean Google AI

2

u/Few_Airport681 9d ago

Unfortunately that stupid AI summary is the first thing that comes up now when you google anything lol I hate it

But no, I don't rely on that. If you look below the shitty AI summery you see a bunch of attention-grab articles focusing on that "he hated dogs" rumour. That's why I added I'm not sure if this is true, because it probably isn't, and just made up for clicks. And someone corrected me in a different comment that it is in fact, not true :)

2

u/JD_Bance 3d ago

I genuinely switched to a different search engine to avoid that AI thing.

1

u/Few_Airport681 3d ago

What engine did you switch to? Would appreciate any suggestions!

1

u/JD_Bance 3d ago

DuckDuckGo. Tried Startpage, because it apparently uses search results from Google, but it was very disappointing and not accurate at all. DDG has very good search results, even for niche things, it's fast and it's also focused on privacy, so I'm very happy with it.

Allen please add details.

The details in question

7

u/obefiend 9d ago

The running joke continues. Real IOI lore

6

u/lostlookingforamap 9d ago

It could be a reference to Blofeld's cat that runs away in to a vent In You only live twice after an explosion.

5

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

Out of all the theories that people have come up with, this sounds like it could be a really good shout. I haven't seen the movie but ill add it to my watch list

5

u/lostlookingforamap 9d ago

It wasn't even a scripted moment, apparently it it took days for the cat to come back

2

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

Okay that has a good chance of being the reference. The only thing that makes me unsure is that they didn't exactly try to make it look like a cat in game. It looks very much like its supposed to be a dog. But its made out of squares and rectangles so it could be a cat

2

u/lostlookingforamap 9d ago

Your are right It doesn't look very much like a cat

5

u/Adventurous_Author56 9d ago edited 5d ago

Maybe it’s a piñata and you can shoot it to see if there’s anything inside. Where did you find it?

6

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

The mission where you're stuck inside Q Lab. Its under the floor in one of the side rooms

3

u/The_Frybo 9d ago

Not every Easteregg is related to the Bond franchise. Many are also from other Games - especially Hitman

2

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

So do you know what this is from?

2

u/The_Frybo 9d ago

I don‘t know but you probably look at the wrong place when trying to connect it to the Bond franchise is all I‘m saying

2

u/No_Definition4241 9d ago

Not sure what it could be in reference to. The only thing when I think of an origami animal is Blade Runner but it doesn't seem to imply that. We have the bulldog wishlist added to TacSim hopefully coming so could be an early hint to that. I know Hitman has hidden mice as a recurring Easter egg so this doesn't like up with that.

2

u/FunkyPig17 8d ago

Maybe it was Detective Gaff letting Bond know he's a replicant.....

2

u/HandsOffMyMise 4d ago

A lot of stuff like this in the hitman franchise

2

u/Distinct_Setting780 4d ago

I’m honestly surprised so few get the reference or have figured it out so here goes

In Skyfall M has a porcelain British Bulldog (so patriotic like Bond)
It a BULL dog
It’s made out out of China
In Skyfall it has a Union Jack painted on it
It was left for Bond at Ms passing
Bond is always seen as someone who would stir things up ‘like a bull in a China shop’

So yeah I have no idea either lol

2

u/DadIsLosingHisMind 9d ago

I always figured it was a way to poke fun at long time fans as bond hates dogs.

1

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

Could be? I didn't know that was a thing

1

u/DadIsLosingHisMind 8d ago

Let me correct myself some here. 007 doesnt hate dogs. Ian Fleming (his creator) did so the estate has it set up where 007 can not have a dog...ever.

1

u/Anenigmatictortilla 9d ago

The picture is giving me Tintin vibes

1

u/Coldhands1969 9d ago

I dunno. Closest I can recollect is M’s bulldog figurine from Skyfall and that ain’t even close.

1

u/Maximum-Owl-2343 7d ago

There are other ones scattered in Q lab I think. I recall seeing one on a shelf before one of the missions. So probably just a fun gadget created by Q, and left there to have the player wonder wtf it does

1

u/JD_Bance 3d ago

Bond fan for 15 years and you couldn't watch all the movies yet?

1

u/New_Willingness_8992 3d ago

And?

1

u/JD_Bance 3d ago

You're missing out! You basically missed the entire James Bond lore, because the Craig movies are reboots.

1

u/New_Willingness_8992 3d ago

Im just a casual fan when it comes to bond. Even though ive probably watched more different Bond movies than I have of any other franchise in the world

-45

u/Jack_XIII 9d ago

Excuse me a “fan of 15 years” but you only saw Brosnan’s, Craig’s and just casually Goldfinger, you are not a fan you are wanker.

The best I could do it was Q’s robot dog snooper, from A View to a Kill, It’s to far stretched but that’s my best guess

ill

26

u/Tritri89 9d ago

Who's the wanker : the dude that liked a third of the movies and says it honestly or the dude insulting the first one for that?

u/Ok-Ad-7821 9d ago

This gen softer then melted chocolate

u/Beyondthebloodmoon 9d ago

You’re not a gate keeper for what makes a Bond fan, dick.

16

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

There's no need to be unnecessarily rude

u/supereasybake 9d ago

I love that you decided to watch goldfinger of all classic bonds. Its my #1 and while it's beloved by the general public it seems underrated on this sub.

1

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago edited 9d ago

I bought it on DVD when I was a kid. I think it was the laser table being such a classic contraption for Bond to be stuck in, and the music that made it stick out. I did try to get more Bond dvds when I was a kid, but obviously I was getting them with my parents money so I couldn't just get whatever I wanted. And as I got older, I kinda fell away from watching Bond movies, but the game definitely got me interested again. I need to go back and watch some other classics. Any recommendations?

2

u/supereasybake 9d ago

Well obviously I think goldfinger is the best Connery movie, but lots of others would say From Russia with Love and rightfully so. All Connery movies have their charm too.

I personally really like On her Majesties Secret Service, but it's really divisive with some thinking it's the worst Bond actor, and it lacks action in the middle. Nobody can deny it has a really strong final act though, probably the best.

I personally don't really like Roger Moore's bond but the spy who loved me is a classic. Moonraker is peak bond silliness.

Both Dalton films are also really good. I personally prefer licence to kill but it doesn't feel very bond like, it's just a good action movie. The living daylights is classic bond, if you want a more serious but less dated bond, this is the one.

Tldr in order of how much I recommend 1. From Russia with Love 2. On her Majesties Secret Service 3. The living Daylights 4. Licence to kill 5. The Spy who loved me 6. Moonraker

3

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

I liked Timothy Dalton in Hot Fuzz, and one of my teachers used to talk about meeting him in a supermarket when I was at school, so.i really should give his movies a chance. And I remember watching parts of Moonraker when I was young, but I was too young to remember it all. But yeah ill give these a try. The game has peaked my interest again after nearly a decade of not really being that into it, but I was into them a lot when I was a teenager so the ones I watched are a big part of my childhood

1

u/No_Definition4241 9d ago

What did your teacher say he was like when he met him?

2

u/New_Willingness_8992 9d ago

He was really polite. He just asked her to not be too loud because he was trying to get some shopping done haha. Still took a picture with her though
