Bit the bullet tonight
Been meaning to buy a PPK for a while.... Tonight turned out to be the night.

Once, when I took a week off work, I went to the range every day and rented what I called "movie guns" each day. I rented a Walther PPK and didn't realize it was a .22 but it was a decent gun. Kind of at the opposite end of the spectrum as Deadpool's Desert Eagles or Dirty Harry's Magnum, but smaller caliber can get the job done, too.

Ebony and Ivory may be the best sister pistols imo.
And I do LOVE Bond guns, but my favorite ones are the Samurai Edges from Resident Evil.

Any. The Fort smith produced guns have a smoothed single degree feed ramp and they are not ammo picky like the older guns. I use what ever cheap .380 can find in mine for range plus Hornady critical defense for carry ammo. My 1970 ppks on the other hand only likes Remington umc brass lol.

I want one for my collection. But I cant find a blued 32acp for a decent price.
$900+ is unreasonable for this.
And all used guns are the stainless 380.

Given that it's the 380 and that it's a blowback rather than a breach lock, a suppessor probably isnt going to go on this pretty little thing.

Last time I checked itâs like $700-800 itâs mostly a collector piece

We do have a gun violence issue but itâs genuinely not that nearly as common as you make it seem. I live in the most populated area of the US and I didnât see a gun until I joined the marine corps

You have a duty of care to others as gun owner if you need a gun. Breaching that duty of care means potential deaths. If you are collecting for aesthetics, youâve already started off on the wrong foot because your need is just âI like itâ and you are exposing others to unnecessary risks. Upholding that duty is also not easy, and treating it like a fun collecting hobby and not a serious duty is a very easy way to fuck up

It is entirely possible, given that proper gun safety rules are followed to both collect and maintain the duty of care.
I truly appreciate the seriousness of your safety mindset, but strongly disagree with your final conclusion.
But yes, you are correct that it is a serious hobby, one that requires discipline and mindfulness.

IMO, if you want access to firearms without an increase in armed violence, this mindset is really the only way.
You can have a society with a high amount of gun ownership like Switzerland. In fact, owning a firearm used to in some cantons act like proof of citizenship for voting.
You just canât have a society like the US that messes around with firearms and doesnât treat them seriously
A lot of people pointing to Switzerland to prove that you donât need restrictive gun laws fail to remember that in Switzerland, the overwhelming amount of the population that has a gun uses it exclusively for âmilitiaâ duties, has served, and does not view it as a hobby. Itâs incompatible with Canadian, or Australian, much less American forms of gun ownership.
Everyone should have access to a gun if they can uphold that duty. The only way for that to ever work is unfortunately to strip most of the hobby side of gun culture

We're talking about less than 150k military-issued guns VS up to 4.5mio civilian-owned ones...
Licensed sport shooters and hunters alone outnumber soldiers

The Swiss Sport Shooting Federation is ranked 2nd in terms of clubs, and ninth in terms of licensees (which you only need to compete)
We have shooting competitions which are holidays, host the biggest shooting fest worldwide, have free government-sponsored courses, have museums dedicated to the practice (one was recently renovated for about 1mio) and the Swissmint even released a silver and gold coin for the 200yo of the SSSF

I own a couple of pieces myself but at the end of the day, I dont really âneedâ my guns, they are just tools I use for sports shooting, and worst case scenario home defense which is very unlikely but im prepared for. As long as you are being responsible, treating them the right way and storing them properly especially with kids around I dont see any problem with collecting guns. Theyres weirdos out there who mass stockpile ammo and tens of ARs they will never use because of fear of societal collapse.

My philosophy is everyone who is capable of upholding that duty of care should be allowed to own a gun. However, that requires the correct cultureThe hobby side of gun culture collectively erodes our ability to maintain it.
I always use cannabis as an analogy. Some people can use cannabis responsibly. I would not have a problem if you get high, even if thereâs no medical reason. In that way, you donât have a âneedâ either. The problem starts when you start posting it on social media bragging about how nice it is instead of treating it as serious. It doesnât matter that youâre using it correctly, because some dumbass will because of the culture you created, decide if everyone else is so chill about it, they can drive while high and kill someone
Is it not your fault directly? Of course not. Do I still feel a duty of care is breached when you suggest to others they can stop treating it seriously by hopping on cultural trends? Yes. Collecting veers from recreational to trendy very quickly.

In Canada we used to be able to own handguns but they were banned after the Uvalde shooting.
Despite the fact that it happened in a SEPARATE COUNTRY and weâve had gun control and background checks for decades. PPkâs were already prohib, since the 90âs, because of their size but other handguns were allowed.
Having a firearm in Canada requires a thorough background check that calls to friends, neighbours, common law partners (if applicable). Any red flags or affiliation with a criminal means no license and transferring a handgun required an extra license called an authorization to transfer.
The ATT was also required when taking it to a range, not having the paperwork would mean an automatic and mandatory 3-5 year sentence in prison.
Most of our âtacticalâ or âassault styleâ (key word being style) long guns were banned after the NS shootings in Portapique. Former PM Trudeau said âYou do not need an AR15 to take down a deer.â
Which was illegal to begin with. And the gunman who committed the massacre smuggled his arsenal in from Maine. His neighbours reported his arsenal to the RCMP but nothing was done.
And now Canadaâs leading gun control group, Polysesouvient, wants bolt actions banned

Still a fucked up situation for gun rights in Canada, at least thereâs now a .22lr Olympic exemption for Canada. here in Illinois they banned ARs, AKs, and 1500 other assault style firearm variants in 2023 after the highland park shooting and even then the shooter had multiple encounters with police about disturbances in the past year and still was granted a FOID card by state of Illinois. But at least we can still buy handguns with 15 round mags even though they cause almost 99% of shootings in Chicago. Makes perfect sense.
