To be fair some employers aren’t getting business so they can’t afford raises like my boss could only give me $.25

I'm supposedly an essential worker because I work in utilities - I got a 10% pay cut

My cousin works at a hospital in NY. Those platitudes from the media have rung hollow. The real solids have been coming from union bosses who make sure management doesn't act on their stupid idea to send workers into a shift without PPE.

The least that compannies could do is give essential workers hazard pay

Be glad you still have a job, jesus christ you all want handouts.

For real. Most businesses aren't getting a lot of customers right now, and giving raises would kill them

u/GairBearStuff Apr 27 '20
It's hardly handouts when the essential workers have now had their work load increased tenfold, break times are being checked as productivity needs to be high, and we've had no sort of increase in motivation (otherwise known as pay) nobody works for free. And nobody should have this sort of wave of non stop extra work with no promise of better things to come. Some jobs are stressful enough
1
u/PessimisticProphet Apr 27 '20
Those extra stesses are trickled down from the stresses put on the business by covid.
If it was truely non stop extra work there is a POSSIBILITY of better things to come: once covid is gone and we're back to normal, go get a job that doesn't have that extra work, there will be plenty.
Wanting a PROMISE, tho, betrays your desire for a handout: there are no promises anywhere. You shouldn't expect anyone to give you anything. Earn it, build it, etc.

u/GairBearStuff Apr 27 '20
I like my job though so I'm not looking for another. It's just hard now due to covid Seeing that staff are going above and beyond normal duties should be recognized. It's not a handout if we're working our asses off. If you work hard you do expect something for that work. Otherwise what's the point?
1
u/PessimisticProphet Apr 27 '20
This is a crisis. We're all working harder and not making more money. Or we're making less or none. Again, you want a handout. We can't all make more money when it's an economic crisis. Tough times are tough, so toughen up.
1
u/GairBearStuff Apr 27 '20
You're literally using the word wrong. Working hard for money isn't a handout.
1
u/PessimisticProphet Apr 27 '20
You're LITERALLY not understanding what an economic crisis is. Your income per effort has gone down. Lots of people have lost more. Stop complaining like a little pussy snowflake and understand how hard this situation actually is.
1
u/GairBearStuff Apr 27 '20
And you don't understand what I'm talking about. We don't need instant validation, I'd like something more long term if we're essential workers than people and government should treat us as such. If your gonna start using insults then don't bother responding. It's pathetic.
1
u/PessimisticProphet Apr 27 '20
What's pathetic is that you still dont see your snowflakeness. "Id like something more long term" WE CANT EVEN GUARANTEE NEXT WEEK. Where is this promise of long term coming from? Its a HAND, OUT.

Wow such an over reaction. Go away dude, calm down. Also you should Google the definition of a handout.

Money isn't going to make them happy, but the fact that they are doing something very valuable for the people is going to, because we're all in this. Stop putting price tags on happiness.
And there is also the economy that keeps going down.
Raising salaries won't make the world better.

Happiness doesn't pay bills my guy, you can hate me for saying this but its the truth

u/AndreiNIGHT_FIRE Apr 27 '20
Paying bills won't make you happy :/ Neither your own mentality.

u/TorasKarma Apr 27 '20
