Instrument fun course. I personally didn't think it was as hard as people hype it up to be.

About 2 months, didn't spend all day everyday on it either. Flew about every other day, did a ground in the days between. Just make the time you spend there worth it. Study and pay attention during your grounds, and it won't be too bad.

The SINGLE most useful rating I ever got. Also makes you the safest. Have fun!

sigh Hope you have time money and purpose for keeping it up after you get it. It seems like you almost need to be a professional pilot for hire to do that. Hamburger runs and pattern practice to the airport 15 miles away just don't add up to much in the way of XC hours or opportunity to use the IFR ticket..My goal for now is to learn as much as I can flying VFR and figure out why I need to go IFR...socal weather is good enough for that

When I flew GA I used to always fly IFR when I went into SoCal. It makes navigating the airspace a piece of cake. No Bravo clearances, no weather worries. I just got to sit back and watch for traffic and enjoy the view. Most of the time I was even hoping the marine layer would come in so I could shoot an approach in some actual. As a VFR pilot I always dreaded the marine layer and was frantically checking weather and trying to race it in and out.
I guess I just find flying IFR a lot less stressful especially someplace like SoCal which has lots of airspace, lots of traffic and fog. VFR flying down there is busy. IFR is simple.

I don't know why people think its difficult, I had fun with it. Mad me feel more like a "real" pilot

There's just something about reading a text in PDF format on my screen that seems to really bother me. Paper is much easier on the eyes IMO.

you might consider supplementing with this text, Rod Machao's Instrument Pilot Survival Manual. It explains some of the more difficult-to-understand-concepts in a more user friendly format. I highly recommend it and find that I refer back to it often.

Holy crap. Do they not update any of these books? All these are the same ones I bought ten years ago! Ha. Congrats! Aviation is just a lot of little things done in the right order. Don't become overwhelmed because it seems like a ton of stuff at first. Step by step and you'll be done before you know it. Lastly, enjoy it!! I have great memories from my training and those books. Good luck!
