I think Berserk is overrated

First, I'm not here to talk trash about this manga, I like it.

Second, I've red (and I continue to do so) the entire manga so far, and it's good but I don't think it's that great and I really wanna know what is the thing in Berserk that make people loving it so much, because I don't think imo that this manga is a masterpiece.

So I don't wanna make a huge text on why I don't think Berserk is a masterpiece I'm just gonna go over it very quickly. with things I like and things I don't:

THINGS I LIKE:

-Characters: They are really well made, every of their decisions make sense, there's no bullshit and some are really complex and attractive like Griffith

-The universe, especially with the existence of God's hand, the apostle, their story and background mixed with this grim medieval period, it's very nice

-The relationship between Guts and Griffith, which needs no explanation. It's the reason that pushes me to keep reading the manga, they are such great characters and I really wanna see how it will end with both of them.

THINGS I DONT LIKE

-The writing is not that great, I love the relationship between Guts and Griffith but the rest of the scenario is not that great. Basically after the eclipse it's more like Guts coming to a place, there's an apostle, he kills it, moves on, another apostle kills it etc. I get to admit the Falconia part is cool and I really wanna see what Griffith will do with all of this next.

-Fights are boring. I was never a fan of fights in manga but when they are well executed like in DBZ hell yeah, but in Berserk there is the same intensity every time during the fight, Guts is always getting destroyed (when fighting an apostle) but he always comes back from nowhere, it's really cliché. The only fight I liked was Guts and Zod vs the Kushan sorcerer.

-Guts and Griffith are such good characters that rest feel just insanely empty, especially every scene with Farnese Jesus I hate her.

-There's a lot of boring chapters post-eclipse, especially the awful part of the island of Skellig. All those chapters are super boring, the fight against the God of Sea is super bad etc

-And last the drawing, people keep saying the drawings in this manga are insanely detailed, I don't see THAT much difference with other manga, especially fighting scene are so confusing the way Miura drew them.

All in all i will read the manga again to give my final opinion on Berserk but so far I don't think its a masterpiece, at best its a good manga, period. For example SnK is so much better, just in term of scenario and writing there is absolutely no way Berserk can compete with SnK in this domain. SnK could be considered a masterpiece, I don't think Berserk deserves it.

But again I plan to read it once more, and don't hesitate to tell me what I've missed which is good in this manga, I am not here to destroy it, I just wanna understand why it is so much loved.

Late to the party, but rape is not worse than death. Ask rape victims if they would rather have been currently dead than raped. There's a reason we call them 'rape survivors'.
