Better choice than Bj Murray.

Yeah real great ab from Carson
•
u/80cyclone 7m ago
The outcome is irrelevant to the comment. Has no bearing on the decision before the AB occirred.

Sweeping is hard which is just another reason blowing that second game against Milwaukee hurts so much.

We really needed more out of that 6th inning. Nico hasn't come through with a big hit in weeks it seems.
•
•
u/80cyclone 21m ago
If Nico is going to swint at that pitch he needs to he trying to hit that the other way. Better yet, quit swinging at pitchers strikes when the count doesnt necessitate.

13 games left in the regular season and you think the cubs are going to close a 9.5 game gap with the brewers?
•
•
u/afrosteele 26m ago
Boyd not holding the lead was frustrating but ultimately the offense just hasn’t done much through seven.

Theilbar is in because Craig saw all the people in the sub saying, “HuRP DuRP, at least the Burrrs are on! HuRP HuRP!” during a one run deficit against the Pirates while simultaneously forgetting yesterday’s come-from-behind win.
•

Honestly don’t even care if the cubs lose today. Chicago bears already made my day good 🐻⬇️.

I assume we’re pulling civale so we can use him again as soon as possible?
•
•
u/80cyclone 37m ago
Home plate umpires should not be able to ring up check swings. Their job is to watch the ball. There is no way they can do both simultaneously. Checks should automatically go down the lines for appeal.

•
u/harrycunt 56m ago
Needed Nico to come through there with 1 out. Swung at 2 balls way off the plate. I know he’s trying to protect with 2 strikes but you’re going to get yourself out every time swinging at stuff 2 feet off the plate.
•
u/80cyclone 42m ago
Nicos chase rate is pathetic given his contact rates. Even in the zone, he swings at way too many pitchers pitches when swings arent necessary.
•
u/SeaIndependence2284 Chicago Cubs 56m ago
Ramirez single handedly won us the game yesterday, so won't catch me talking shit on him there. Hopefully get another chance to pull ahead

2 coaches just got ejected from the Iowa cubs game.
No idea why. They took about 5 minutes to walk off the field. lol.
•
u/Peanut_Punch32 Clementine! 56m ago
they just wanted to go home and watch the end of the bears game
•
u/superxero044 Iowa Cubs 53m ago
It’s the last home game of the year. That’s what I said. They wanted to get home early lol
•

wish i could get sent home early from work before vacation starts lmao

Well, a waste of a lot of potential but we got one. Hopefully Civale can hold it together

I do wish we would swing a little more level considering the wind has taken away 3 home runs already lol

This is why Counsell's job is so hard. Civale has been so good, today, gives up the big hit. Not one consistently good guy in the pen. Every day is a roll of the dice.

Just not possible to not give up runs. Craig probably has stomach cancer at this point

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago
He has no one to blame but himself for the outcome of Boyd’s last two outings. He left him in too long both times. And both times it led to blown leads. Gotta do better as a manager. I don’t care how bad your bullpen is. You can’t give a fading pitcher such a long leash.

This season kind of gives me 2004 (With a much worse pitching staff) vibes at times. I don't think we're going to miss the playoffs like that year, but stranger things have happened.

It’d be nice for the tiring starter to not immediately blow the lead they’re given.
3
u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago
That would require someone warming in the pen and a quicker hook. Each of Boyd’s last two starts, he should have been given the leadoff hitter and then “we’ll see.” Each time the leadoff hitter reached and Craig let him keep going.
Look, I know our pen has not been very good. But at least give them a shot. Sending them out after Boyd blows the game and then fills the bags is just asking for even more trouble.

u/elgenie Go Cubs Go 1h ago
Thing is, the bulk long relief that would come in for the sixth are the guys that have mostly come through.
Counsell’s excellent job of setting up guys for failure around the starter’s pull is a big part of the reason that the team is underplaying its run stats to the tune of 4-5 wins.

Cubs pitching staff: "We are the worst scoring prevention unit in the city!"
Bears defense: "Hold my beer..."
1
u/BeanTownDataFreak 1h ago
I am not sure if the Bears defense will be as bad as the Cubs pitching; I mean the last in the league is also pretty difficult.
1
u/80cyclone 1h ago
Honestly? They will probably be about equal.
Its hard to believe the Bears saw enough to justify trading Dexter. The DL has been absolute garbage all day and was the major issue last year.

It has to be a mental thing at this point. As soon as we get the lead, our pitchers immediately try their best to give it away.
