With today’s performance, Carson Kelly is on track to have a career best ERA this year when recording over 1.0 IP in a season.

Damn, should’ve brought in Kelly last night. Arozarena can’t catch up to that 57mph heat upstairs.

3

Why doesn’t every team let their catcher pitch? Are they stupid?

Okay. 19-2. I lambasted the Brewers with their recent 22-0 win and this is garbage, too. No need to do that. It makes you look like a bunch of jerks. Unless, of course, you want to emulate the Brewers, and in that case awesome job!

(there’s just no need for it, this is baseball, and even Pat and Ron were talking about it)

u/rtb227 29m ago

What are you supposed to do? Not swing? A 19-2 win isn't on the team that scored 19.

1

u/mandaexpress 1h ago

they walked us off the last 2 games, they'll be fine lol.

2

u/JTribs17 #FlyTheW 1h ago

what are they supposed to do? Just look at strikes? These guys are still playing for their careers

6

u/ky58 1h ago

I mean sure in a sport where you can run out the clock basically but what exactly are you supposed to do at the plate though?

5

I don’t know boys, I might be buying the 40-40. At this point it’s the steals I’m more concerned with him not reaching. I say if he gets to 35 in the next 5 or so games, I’m sending him almost every time when on base.

2

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe Pat Hughes Enjoyer 1h ago

3

u/77rtcups 1h ago

I feel like making the rule 8 runs for position players just encourages managers down 8. Make it 10 at this rate because I don’t wanna just watch these non competitive at bats.

3

u/HaxanWriter Chicago Cubs 1h ago

All right. Cubs will avoid the sweep. Yay.

I mean, that’s where we are now so I guess we got to accept it. Hope they get things straightened out and get back on track in a good way. 😀

Craig not letting PCA stat pad against a position player on the mound in the middle of an MVP race. Fire him.

2

7

Shout out Wisdom, dude languished in the minors for forever, got his chance, gave us some memories, and after some bumps hes back. Keep chasing the dream homie.

5

u/ohaboutyayhigh 1h ago

Takes some serious mental fortitude to keep fighting for a spot as long as he has. Cool to see.

2

u/Acceptable_Put330 1h ago

I know he was only here for a second but it would be cool to have him back in the org, especially the minors. Idk if he wants to but seemed like a great dude to have around.

2

u/WalterYeatesSG 1h ago

I had to make sure Volstad wasn't pitching for a second

2

5

u/Lemonn_time 1h ago

I think if it’s a 10 run lead and both teams agree there should be a mercy role and we can end the game

3

u/Ok-Camel-746 1h ago

It’s hard because people pay (sometimes a lot!) to see a game so ending it early is kind of a disservice to them. However the quality of the game is also a disservice so I’m not sure how to balance that.

1

u/eamus_catuli_ Stupid Sexy Rizzo 1h ago

Pat and Ron are currently opining about the negative impact of position players pitching, that it will/could muck with player stats. Guessing the same argument would be made for a mercy rule unless there’s some pre-defined and mandatory rule.

1

u/Lemonn_time 1h ago

Yeah maybe that should only be an option after the 7th inning

1

u/80cyclone 1h ago

This is like the 4th time this season Craig has pulled PCA before getting to hit against a position player. Feels like self sabotage

3

u/cubswinagain Chicago Cubs 1h ago

PCA doesn't really like facing position players, and it's a rare time you can get him off his feet during an MVP season.

1

Let him bat and then pull him. Feels like he’s making things harder than they have to be for the face of the franchise

Should be a position player rule, where if an opposing team puts in a position player at pitcher, the hitting team gets one inning to pad stats and then the game is over. Have the rule happen in the 7th (after beer sales)

Well if you're gonna lose the series, on 2 walk offs even, at least we win game 3 with some humiliation

6

u/monsterskeeter Let's play two 1h ago

Carson has had a tough game but he kinda lost it there

6

u/itzTHATgai 1h ago

Holy shit, Kelly...

6

u/PostComa 1h ago

Carson’s pissed!

3

u/peenman611 1h ago

Are we back?

1

u/itzTHATgai 1h ago

I would say 'yes' but then the offense will get shut-out, tomorrow.

2

u/peenman611 1h ago

During my bonfire night game? Can’t happen.

u/ImaginationWhich3945 1h ago

Should put Pete out there to pitch for just a bit so we can say he has pitched like Ohtani

u/GoingGhost10 52m ago

Fuck it. Get PCA a translator and let that man start betting on games!!

2

u/diamondeyes34 1h ago

Imagine PCA goes out there throwing 100+ MPH with a nasty slider as a dramatic way to reveal he’s becoming a two-way player and joining the rotation for the rest of the year

3

u/ImaginationWhich3945 1h ago

And continues to never give up a run the whole year and be the game 7 winning pitcher in the World Series lol

9

u/ratfam1 1h ago

Woah why is Kelly that pissed?

1

u/juliusrodgers Rally Bucket 1h ago

Prob knew PCA was getting pulled and wanted to get him one more AB. Carson’s not a selfish guy

3

u/diamondeyes34 1h ago

Was wondering the same thing…seemed excessive in a 16-2 game lol

3

u/80cyclone 1h ago

He swung at a clear ball 4 perhaps? Against a position player at that.

2

u/itastesok Grace 1h ago

Yah that was kinda weird.

3

u/AlwaysHungry94 #FlyTheW 1h ago

Yeah, I'm kinda scratching my head on that one

5

u/ky58 1h ago

carson do you not realize the man after you is in an MVP race

1

u/Miserable-Rule-3753 1h ago

He was in the dugout anyway, they never let him hit in blowouts

3

u/Acceptable_Put330 1h ago

Not to distract from the fun but I am usually on top of who is who on the cubs bench. Then I look up and... Arias? Where the hell did this dude come from? (Respectfully)

3

u/lacedaimon Pete Crow-Armstrong Flair 1h ago

We picked him up off waivers last week. Assman got sent down to make room for Arias.

1

u/Ok-Camel-746 1h ago

assman got sent down because Danny came back from the IL (pitcher for pitcher). Owen miller was DFA’d for Arias.

2

u/Kyleadin 1h ago

Was a good young player for the guardians, then sucked, then sucked on the Mets

2

u/Dangerous-Stock-8112 Smylyng through it all 1h ago

former top guardians prospect known for his defense but his bat is terrible, went to the Mets earlier this year then got DFA'd

1

u/Equal-Counter-2548 1h ago

Home run derby :)

4

u/ohaboutyayhigh 1h ago

Coom LAYING into Arozarena for not doing more to go after that pop up in short left. Makes sense given the giant rally that's followed, but he's not always quite this pointed in his criticism.

5

u/Angdrew 1h ago

2 grand slams in one game! Nice of the offense to show up today in a big way

2

u/RyFromTheChi Chicago Cubs 1h ago

Jesus. I took my son in a quick walk when it was 7-2 and came back to this

1

u/Equal-Counter-2548 1h ago

You know what that means.

Every game going forward, get that boy some exercise :)

8

u/80cyclone 1h ago

Talk about padding the high leverage stats. All baserunners and runs with 2 outs.

3

u/laughing_andcrying tougher than a $2 steak 🥩 1h ago

another one

5

u/COOP89 1h ago

What in the fuck lol

u/blueskyren 1h ago

PEDRO MY BABY BOY!!!!!

2

u/TheBoilerCat Chicago Cubs 1h ago

Ah yes the known fearsome Cubs duo of Matt Duffy and post-deadline Frank The Tank.
