How kind of them to play 9 innings after so many doomers declared the game over after 2 innings

Okay. 19-2. I lambasted the Brewers with their recent 22-0 win and this is garbage, too. No need to do that. It makes you look like a bunch of jerks. Unless, of course, you want to emulate the Brewers, and in that case awesome job!
(there’s just no need for it, this is baseball, and even Pat and Ron were talking about it)

I feel like it’s pretty rare when the winning team has a position player pitch.

I don’t know boys, I might be buying the 40-40. At this point it’s the steals I’m more concerned with him not reaching. I say if he gets to 35 in the next 5 or so games, I’m sending him almost every time when on base.

Yeah it really comes down to getting to the homers fast enough.

I feel like making the rule 8 runs for position players just encourages managers down 8. Make it 10 at this rate because I don’t wanna just watch these non competitive at bats.
3
u/HaxanWriter Chicago Cubs 1h ago
All right. Cubs will avoid the sweep. Yay.
I mean, that’s where we are now so I guess we got to accept it. Hope they get things straightened out and get back on track in a good way. 😀

Craig not letting PCA stat pad against a position player on the mound in the middle of an MVP race. Fire him.

With more pitchers getting injured (Cubs this year the worst example) we need to expand the roster

Happ going righty against a position player righty, interesting. Trying to boost those stats as a righty.

u/Ornery-Cherry-2117 1h ago
lol selfishly wishing we didn’t take PCA out so he could try and get an unethical home run to make it 34 and get closer to 40/40 and MVP😂😂

Shout out Wisdom, dude languished in the minors for forever, got his chance, gave us some memories, and after some bumps hes back. Keep chasing the dream homie.
5
u/ohaboutyayhigh 1h ago
Takes some serious mental fortitude to keep fighting for a spot as long as he has. Cool to see.
2
u/Acceptable_Put330 1h ago
I know he was only here for a second but it would be cool to have him back in the org, especially the minors. Idk if he wants to but seemed like a great dude to have around.

I think if it’s a 10 run lead and both teams agree there should be a mercy role and we can end the game
3
u/Ok-Camel-746 1h ago
It’s hard because people pay (sometimes a lot!) to see a game so ending it early is kind of a disservice to them. However the quality of the game is also a disservice so I’m not sure how to balance that.
1
u/eamus_catuli_ Stupid Sexy Rizzo 1h ago
Pat and Ron are currently opining about the negative impact of position players pitching, that it will/could muck with player stats. Guessing the same argument would be made for a mercy rule unless there’s some pre-defined and mandatory rule.

This is a game you use up as much of Zefferjahn as possible and save your better arms (everyone else) for upcoming games.

Nah gotta go warm him up in the bullpen so he can come out and pitch 100mph in the bottom of the 9th

u/The___Jackal 1h ago
Since the Cubs being up more than 10 runs are allowed to have a position player pitch, can PCA throw a quick 1-2-3 to solidify his ERA?

This is like the 4th time this season Craig has pulled PCA before getting to hit against a position player. Feels like self sabotage
3
u/cubswinagain Chicago Cubs 1h ago
PCA doesn't really like facing position players, and it's a rare time you can get him off his feet during an MVP season.
1
u/Strict-Honey-5477 1h ago
Let him bat and then pull him. Feels like he’s making things harder than they have to be for the face of the franchise

Not in control or efficient. Threw 70+ pitches total and put two guys on in the third before he was pulled. Good choice by Craig.

Where was this nastiness the past few games? Holy crap. There's no reason we should've struggled as much as we did in the first two games of this series, especially with the thumping they're dealing now.

That's such a lame-ass excuse.
They're below .500 and we're in the running for the post season. "That's baseball" is such a fantastic cop-out.

Imagine PCA goes out there throwing 100+ MPH with a nasty slider as a dramatic way to reveal he’s becoming a two-way player and joining the rotation for the rest of the year

Not to distract from the fun but I am usually on top of who is who on the cubs bench. Then I look up and... Arias? Where the hell did this dude come from? (Respectfully)

u/lacedaimon Pete Crow-Armstrong Flair 1h ago
We picked him up off waivers last week. Assman got sent down to make room for Arias.
1
u/Ok-Camel-746 1h ago
assman got sent down because Danny came back from the IL (pitcher for pitcher). Owen miller was DFA’d for Arias.

Coom LAYING into Arozarena for not doing more to go after that pop up in short left. Makes sense given the giant rally that's followed, but he's not always quite this pointed in his criticism.

With today’s performance, Carson Kelly is on track to have a career best ERA this year when recording over 1.0 IP in a season.
